The title has been open to debate for some time, however it is believed that the 'Screen' refers to Ballinascreen in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland and a "Brae" is a steeped bank or a hillside. Christmas Csardas is a traditional Hungarian folk dance, the name deriving from 'csarda' an old Hungarian term for a roadside tavernThe csardas is characterized by several variations in tempo, usually starting slowly it gradually gains tempo, with moments where the brakes are suddenly applied for a moment of repose, then again gains tempo and ends in a very fast and fresh finale. The dancers are both male and female, with the women dressed in traditional wide skirts, which form a distinctive shape when they whirl.This quirky arrangement of Jingle Bells starting in the traditional czardas minor mode eventually has a fresh atmospheric modulation into the tonic major, and races away for a truly festive finale.

This arrangement was commissioned by B3 (The Bergen Woodwind Ensemble). B3 is a large woodwind ensemble located in Bergen with a mix of professional and amateur players. My Heart Remains in Wonder is a well-known Christmas hymn in Scandinavia. I wanted my version to be different to the traditional hymn tune style in which it is normally performed. One day I was outside walking and this idea came to me: an ostinato-like, mechanical skeleton of arpeggio semiquavers on which I could 'hang' the melody. However, I also wanted to do the melody line a bit different. The inspiration for this comes from folk music and the way fiddlers hardly ever lift their bow off the strings when they play. Because of this, it is important that the melody is played in a very sostenuto style in this arrangement. The harmonies lie somewhere between jazz and folk music with a little nod towards Grieg (himself heavily influenced by folk music) in the slow middle section.

This is an original piece of music composed by Oystein Olsen Vadsten, inspired by old Norwegian folk dances. "Jumpety Jump" actually started out as a "reinlender" (Norwegian Folk Dance) which origins from Rhinland. The reinlender is well disguised in this arrangement by adding the shuffle- and swing style to it. The piece is first of all meant as a "happy go lucky" tune, but is full of rhythmical and technical challenges. Its put up as a jazz-tune, first presenting the melody, then "improvisasations" by the different instrument groups, before going back to the first theme. The title "Jumpety Jump" refers to the kind of jumping feeling the shuffle groove gives.

A suite in three movements by Ray Steadman-Allen, based on the Norwegian folk song "P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein".The work opens with the melody in the flugel horn, and the theme is then developed and varied with many nuances throughout the work.The 2nd and 3rd movements are played continuously.The piece was commissioned by Manger Musiklag in 1988 and bears all the marks of the composer's masterly instrumentation. Een suite in drie delen door Ray Steadman-Allen, gebaseerd op de Noorse folk song ""P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein"". Het werk opent met de melodie in de bugel, en het thema wordt vervolgens ontwikkeld en gevarieerd met veelnuances door het hele werk. Het tweede en derde deel worden zonder onderbreking gespeeld. Het stuk werd geschreven in opdracht van Manger Musiklag in 1988 en draagt alle kenmerken van de componist zijn meesterlijke instrumentatie.

This is a tune by Sigrid Moldestad (b. 1972), a Norwegian folk artist. She has based it on a warm and beautiful poem by Danish author Tove Ditlefsen. A text for and about love. Sigrid Moldestad won the "Spellemannsprisen" (the Norwegian equivalent to Grammy) in 2005 as a part of the group Gamaltnymalt. She won the price two years later, this time as solo artist for the record album Taus. Both times in the Folk Music category. So Take My Heart was released in 2012 as a part of the album Himlen har sove bort morkret.
