2265: Holy God, we praise your name (Micael Dikantsa)This bolero introduces composer Micael Dikantsa of the Amriswil Corps, Switzerland, and is based on the hymn Holy God, We Praise Your Name (Grosser Gott, wir loben dich). Set in the traditional slow, dramatic bolero style, the work builds steadily from a distinctive percussion figure as the melody passes through different instrumental groups. With its growing intensity and rich scoring, this piece offers an engaging and atmospheric addition to concert programmes.2266: Tell the story (Barrie Gott)This work continues the Swing series that began nearly 40 years ago with Light'Walk. After a bold introduction, the melody unfolds through unison and close'harmony writing, leading to a Flugel Horn solo with scope for improvisation. The well'known hymn I Love to Tell the Story is heard in a New Orleans style before a modulation launches an energetic shout chorus and lively coda. Smooth, relaxed swing style is key throughout.2267: The old rugged cross (Erik Leidzn)This arrangement by Erik Leidzn is an early and lesser'known setting of a well'loved hymn, rediscovered during research into his work. Edited from a rare score found in the USA East Music Department archives, it demonstrates Leidzn's economical and effective style, creating a practical and expressive arrangement at a time when concise, serviceable hymn settings were greatly needed.2268: Heaven came down! (Michael Cooper)Inspired by William Booth's famous challenge to use contemporary styles for sacred purpose, this piece blends high'energy jazz'fusion big'band writing with a joyful gospel hymn. Driven by rhythm, syncopation and precision, the music proclaims its message of transformation and spiritual joy with vitality, clarity and infectious swing.

2269: Intrada - Christians Awake (Stephen Gibson)This intrada heralds the happy morning when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. Fanfares surround the traditional Christmas Day hymn, Christians Awake (C.C. 20), where we are encouraged to 'awake, salute the happy morn'. Written in a processional style, this music was composed as a concert opener to be performed in a large church setting.2270: Jesus loves me (Stanley Kelley)Jesus loves me! (S.A.S.B. 807) is a song many church-goers learn as children. While written for children, its message is for everyone. John 15:9 says, 'As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.'2271: Prelude on 'Deep Harmony' (Geoffrey Nobes)This piece was written for the Blendworth Band of Hampshire. The hymn tune, by Handel Parker, is one of the most beautiful and iconic melodies ever written, with lovely harmony supporting the rise and fall of a simple but perfect melodic line.2272: To the hills (Paul Sharman)The inspiration for this arrangement came during a walking holiday in the Lake District. Looking towards the hills brought to mind the words of Psalm 121 and Ernest Rance's setting of that passage, I Lift Up My Eyes (S.A.S.B. 208), with its lovely tune Ochills. This arrangement was written shortly after the composer's return home.

This march was written in 1919 by Norways own March King Oscar Borg (1851-1930).He was born in the town of Halden in the southeast of Norway and received his education at the Royal Academy in Stockholm, Sweden.Upon his return to Halden he became a driving force in the towns musical life in several respects. He conducted choirs, amateur bands and played the organ in church.Borg was also the conductor of 1. Brigades Musikkorps (today The Norwegian Wind Ensemble) from 1881 to 1918.His significance for the Norwegian military bands and their repertoire is unquestionable.He wrote over 60 marches and he played several instruments; the violin, flute, cornet and the organ.This arrangement was written for Askoy Brass Band in 2021.Svein H. One of the composer's most personal works, Genesis is cast in three independent movements but played in close (attacca) proximity to each other. Part One: Out of Darkness... quotes the German chorale Nun Danket (Now thank we all our God) text by Martin Rinkart (1586-1649) and the music by Johann Cruger (1598-1662) in a symbolic, somewhat cynical, style. Part Two: Les Chansons du Monde... (the songs of the earth or earth-songs) is composed with full attention to solo, duo and other combinations of instruments consistently in a cantabile style. Part Three: Into Light... concentrates on rhythmic agility and dance like qualities in a most exuberant fashion, bringing the work to a very positive conclusion. Duration: 14.45

The source of inspiration for this composition was the so-called 'genetic code'. Something which is universal, as almost all organisms on our planet use the same code for their genetic information and therefore speak the same 'language', as it were. The fact that plants, animals, and humans are all subject to the universality of this code fascinates the composer time and time again. Thus, he has chosen a musical motif for this phenomenon, which has been woven through the various musical passages of this work like a genetic thread.Genetic Code was commissioned by the Swiss Brass Band Association to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Brass Band Championships, in 2025, and to be the compulsory piece in the Excellence Division that same year.
