£44.89Boreas: The North Wind (Brass Band) Derek Jenkins
Boreas was an ancient Greek deity personifying the north wind. He was a winged god of ruthless disposition, which was rivaled only by the harsh wintry winds at his command. Boreas fell in love with Orithyia, the King's daughter. Contrary to his genuine nature, he attempted to woo her with sweet words of devotion. His efforts were in vain, and Orithyia failed to yield to his advances. With this rejection, Boreas's temper flared and he, once again, was overcome by his icy and merciless nature. Like Boreas, this work begins with slow, lyrical lines that quickly fade into an unrelenting fury of anger. Moments reminiscent of Boreas's words of affection appear, but they are quickly washed away as the piece escalates. This arrangement was written for Joseph Parisi and the Fountain City Brass Band as a small token of thanks. The original version for wind ensemble was commissioned by and written for Timothy Shade and the Bethel College Wind Ensemble. Fanfare for a Friend was originally composed as an introductory piece for the brass ensemble Musica Mosana and their conductor Mark Prils. The work begins with a brilliant brass fanfare that presents the main theme for the first time. This stately theme can be heard in counterpoints throughout the first 28 bars. This is followed by a contrasting and rapid part whereby a melodic theme can be heard against a more rhythmic accompaniment. A virtuoso and sweeping passage then leads to the grandioso in which both themes are played simultaneously in a grand finale.

When the publisher asked me to make an arrangement of an ABBA tune, S.O.S. was the first song I thought of. Its introduction and melody are well suited to play for band. Admittedly, the key had to be shifted to make it sound good for this instrumentation. To me, this is nostalgia, while for others, the Mamma Mia movie/show will be what they associate with this wonderful song. Apart from a few medleys, few of ABBA's songs are available for band. So, it was very fun to work on this classic.The arrangement is made quite simply to fit many sizes of bands. Technically, it is also relatively simple both in range and rhythm. As you can see, there are many ways to adjust this arrangement to your own ensemble. Bring out melody lines and the bassline, and a lot is done. £38.00Icebreaker (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Harrold, Tom
Icebreaker was originally written for Superbrass in March 2012 and recorded in it's original brass dectet and percussion form on their "Brass Taps" CD. The work begins with tumultuous fanfare, shrouded by thick chords in the lower brass. This fanfare-like material leads to a biting statement from the trombones. An 'icy' gritty section, once again played by the trombones grows in energy, punctuated by the return of the fanfares. The horns, providing a little respite, emerge in a quiet restrained line, which is coloured by the rest of the ensemble. Before fully coming to fruition, the horn line is quickly cut-short and subsumed by the sudden return of the energetic material from the other instruments, which grows to the end of the piece. Duration: 4.30. Suitable for Championship Section Bands.
