Sleepers, Wake (Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns Die Stimme) (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

This enchanting melody is from the fourth movement of Bach's Cantata 140 which was composed in 1731 using the parable of the wise and foolish virgins as the text. The work is beautiful in its simplicity with only three melodic lines, demonstrating Bach's counterpoint at its best. For greatest effect it is suggested that the cornets and trombones play behind the band or to the right and left of the stage.Duration: 4:30

The Puffing Devil (Vocal Solo)

For Children's Choir and Brass BandThe Puffing Devil (2013) was commissioned by Camborne Trevithick Day Committee on the occasion of Camborne's 30th Trevithick Day celebration. The premiere performance of the work, written for brass band and children's choir, saw a massed performance by six brass bands and children from nine local schools. With the intention of being an educational work as well as a musical work, The Puffing Devil reflects the story of Richard Trevithick both in the lyrics and the musical material. A mysterious opening sees running semiquavers in the euphoniums as the flugel horn introduces the work with a solo, before the entry of the horns playing rhythmic quavers. The addition of the voices at the outset is for effect - working with the instruments to create the sound of a steam engine gathering pace simply to the words 'Trevithick'. Once a steady tempo is reached, themes are introduced and sung by the choir, where the vocal writing is a very simple singular-melody; easy for any primary school aged children to learn. An ending of grandeur in a majestic nature is presented, to create a big finish to a feel-good educational work.

Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' (Brass Band) Charles Wesley arr. Andrew Wainwright

Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' was written for the inaugural Texas Brass Fest, held at Round Top Festival Institute on 27 May 2023, for the four premier brass bands in Texas - Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio Brass Bands. It is based on the much loved hymn of the church by Charles Wesley, which is also known as 'O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing', the first verse of which reads: O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! For maximum effect it is suggested that cornets and trombones are staged stood around the band, although if this is not possible then traditional band formation will be acceptable. I was glad was originally a choral introit which is a popular piece in the musical repertoire of the Anglican church. It is traditionally sung in the Church of England as an anthem at the coronation of the British monarch, most recently that of King Charles III in May 2023. This transcription for brass band combines the choral and accompaniment parts meaning it is playable as a standalone arrangement. An optional organ part is included to augment the brass. The cornet section is divided into two choirs to create an antiphonal effect. The 'Vivats' are included in this transcription but an optional cut is provided for that section. Nocturne for Brass Band & Percussion: The Lady with the Lamp - Andy Wareham

VIEW SCORE PDF Nocturne for Brass Band & Percussion: The Lady with the Lamp was composed for the BrookWright International Brass Band Composer Competition 2020, the work later going on to be a finalist in the competition. The music celebrates the life and achievements of Florence Nightingale on the 200th anniversary of her birth. The work is structured in ternary form and is designed to be an engaging concert piece, accessible to both lower and upper section bands. Minimal percussion has been used and ossia passages have been added to accommodate all levels. The music imagines Miss Nightingale walking the wards at night with the contrasting sections representing her devotion to the care of others, the struggles and sacrifice of her service, and the lasting effect of her renowned achievements that are still felt to this day. Panic on Pudding Lane - Jonathan Bates

DURATION: 5 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Championship. Panic on Pudding Lane was composed for the 2016 RNCM Festival of Brass, for the Black Dyke Band and Prof. Nicholas Childs. The work was composed to mark the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London in 1666. Following the frantic panicking, and hustle and bustle of the emergency service vehicles, a moment of reflection and tranquility is found in the core of the work, with a feature for Soprano Cornet and Flugelhorn in a section that almost pleads and mourns over the damage and devastation which surrounds them, as they stand amongst the burning rubble and debris (enhanced by a CD sound effect backing track). Whilst this section proves to be the calming point of the piece, the chaos and destruction is still never far from the ear, with distant echoes of sirens in the background towards the section's close. . Panic once again returns as the piece builds to a chaotic and driving close, with a huge sweeping recapitulation of the 'London's Burning' motif taking the lead before a wild,dischordant and frenzied finale brings the work to it's end. .

As The World Falls Apart... - Jonathan Bates

DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Moderate. 'As The World Falls Apart' was composed for David Maxted as part of the programme for his BMus Final Recital at the RNCM in May 2017. The work was composed in a time of real political and social divide, with chaos only ever seeming minutes away, and the base of the piece is one of serenity and traniquility amongst the bedlam which is occurring around us all. Originally, the work was planned to be a totally free unaccompanied work for solo horn, however I wanted to make use of the vast space the RNCM concert hall can offer with the surround-sound speakers and decided to utilise a short sound effect track to enhance the feeling of chaos as the music reaches it's peak in dynamic and intensity.
