Marche pour la ceremonie des Turcs - Jean-Baptiste Lully - Haakon Esplo
Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) moved from Italy to Paris and started as a kitchen boy. Alongside he also composed music and was a dancer and actor. He soon became leader of the court orchestra, and wrote music for the parties at the court. At aconcert in 1687 he hit his foot with his conductor pole, got gangrene in the wound and died three months later. Lully is the first known composer of French baroque operas and had great influence on the development of the European musictowards the end of the 1600s.Turkish march is used in the 1991 movie "All the mornings of the world" (Tous les matins du monde) starring Gerard Depardieu. The action takes place in France in seventeenthcentury where we follow the relationshipbetween the viol player Marin Marais and his mentor Sainte Colombe.

David Well composed 'X-mas for Three' for three young pupils of his, who wished to give a Christmas concert. He arranged six well-known Christmas songs for them, and their first performance was a great success. This was reason for the composer to adapt the piece for 'orchestra' by adding percussion. The title has stayed the same, and the work can still be played by as few as three musicians, but as the saying goes: "The more, the merrier"! 'X-mas for Three' consists of the following parts : 1. Composer: Andrew Duncan Conspirators Overture was written for Katrina Marzella-Wheeler and the Cooperation Band for their winning programme played at the 2025 Brass in Concert competition at the Glass House in Gateshead in England. The piece describes a meeting in a caf in Paris in 1912 between three very influential Russians. The composer Igor Stravinsky, the dancer Vaslav Nijinsk and the impresario Sergei Diaghilev. Together they conspired about how Stravinsky's new Ballet, Le Sacre du Printemps (The rite of Spring) was going to disrupt what was then a very conservative, classical music scene in Paris. Stravinsky's music would forever change the way harmonies and rhythms are used in classical and jazz music. Starvinsky's full name is Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky. The piece uses the morse code rhythm for IFS, which is Stravinsky's initials as a pulsating 11/8 rhythm which is the foundation of the overture. The opening notes from the Rite of Spring, played by a solo bassoon, are also quoted in the piece in a jazz waltz setting and in a short fugue towards the end of the piece. Suitable for Championship or First Section Bands.

'Elegy to Unknown Musicians' (or in French 'Elegie aux Musiciens Inconnus') is a hymn the composer wrote after the death of Maurice Crozier, who was his fellow musicians in the first band he played 'L'Echo de la Vallee du Morgon' near Lyon (France). It's dedicated to him and all amateur musicians.
