The arranger had a dream..... The three wise men were looking for the baby Jesus to give him their gifts. This was done somewhat in the manner of the scene of Monty Python's 'Life of Brian'. The search was not successful - Sir Alan Sugar ('The 'Apprentice') made an appearance ordering the three wise men to "get off my land". Meanwhile, the baby Jesus slept peacefully on, unaware of the nearby disturbance. Bizarrely, this dream sequence was played out at high speed, as in the closing scene from each episode of 'The Benny Hill Show' of the 1970s. This arrangement attempts to portray this comical caper. This has become a Christmas song that has its roots in a love duet between the young Fleksnes and classmate Victoria. The class will be competing with a duet in a song competition. The text gives hope of love and links it to Christmas traditions. "A Dream of Christmas, About Love" is the first line of the text. "The Young Fleksnes" runned as advent calender on TV Norge in 2010. This arrangement feature an flugelhorn soloist and a euphonium soloist. Please be aware of the dynamics between soloists and accompaniment. Adjust the dynamics according to the musicians in the ensemble.

£65.00Four Sketches - Simon Dobson
Simon Dobson wrote his 'Four Sketches' at the request of Peter Bossano, Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's death. The first movement, 'Fanfare',quotes directly from the opening violin melody from Britten's song cycle Les Illuminations. This melodic line is superimposed upon sonorous Lydian mode chords to project a majestic sound. The second movement, 'Prayer', is adefinite contrast, being and much more reflective and pensive in it's mood, and featuring a dream like euphonium cadenza. The third movement, 'Funeral March', builds from a soft chordal opening to a chaotic andconfusedfortississimo climax with flourishes in the cornets and pounding tri-tones across the basses, before plunging into silence for a flugel cadenza to finish. The final Finale movement is much more positive from the off, withits jaunty melodies over a Brittenesque ostinato. The block chordal passages offer a crashing climax, making for an exciting conclusion to an excellent new work for the medium. Simon Dobson's 'Four Sketches' was the winningentry in the European Brass Band Composer Competition held in Brussels in March 2002.

Lucy Pankhurst has created a highly immersive solo for Tuba/Eb Bass with brass band accompaniment, aiming and succeeding in showing the lyrical and technical diversity of the tuba, demanding virtuoso brilliance and clarity in performance.Dedicated to tuba player Edd Leech, Oubliette raises the bar for tuba repertoire.Set includes score, brass band parts and solo parts for Eb Bass (TC) and Tuba (BC). Solo with piano accompaniment available separately.Programme notes from the composer, Lucy Pankhurst:From the French word oublier, meaning 'to forget', an oubliette was a form of dungeon used in the 14th century. A small, windowless room where someone is locked away to be forgotten and left to go mad.I initially chose this title for the piece as the Tuba is often forgotten as a solo instrument, when its versatility in performance should be celebrated. Oubliette showsThe work begins with desolate and sparse accompaniment with lamenting solo lines. The soloist has already been cast into the oubliette at this point and is beginning to wake from a somnolent state. Reality is blurred through the darkness of the chamber - the only entrance is a hatch in the ceiling, far out of reach.Memories are confused by countless hours of solitude - hallucinations and paranoia tainting reality. Gradually, the soloist remembers images from the past and gains confidence and strength. Long forgotten by the captors, or presumed dead in the chamber, the entrance hatch suddenly opens to allow another prisoner inside. The soloist seizes the opportunity for escape and a short battle ensues. Sword and fist fighting, perilous leaps over the entrances to more dungeons and fierce battle cries are futile, as the soloist suddenly realises they are alone in the oubliette once more and the skirmish was nothing but another dream.The piece concludes with unaccompanied soloist in the low register, sinking deeper into the shadows of the windowless prison; are they accepting their fate, or merely lying in wait for another chance of escape, if one will ever come . . .

This arrangement of O Little Town of Bethlehem is based on the beloved carol text by Phillips Brooks (1835-1893), set to the familiar St. Louis tune composed by Lewis Redner in 1868. Originally written for a Christmas Sunday school service, the melody famously came to Redner in a dream the night before it was needed - an origin story that mirrors the spontaneous inspiration behind this brass band setting. Fendall Hill's arrangement was prepared for Sovereign Brass (Wednesbury, England) and included in their 2023 Christmas CD. Lyrical and reverent, this version captures the timeless beauty of the carol while offering a fresh voice for modern brass ensembles. The Golden Pass is a rail line in the Swiss Alps that connects Montreux, located by Lake Geneva, to Lucerne, in central Switzerland. This composition echoes the thoughts and feelings of a passenger who watches the changing landscapes he observes on this journey: green meadows full of grazing cows and traditional chalets, beautiful mountain lakes, waterfalls and mountain tops, including the scenic Bruning Pass. Is this real or just a dream? We may never know!
