EUPHONY (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band Set) - Robert Redhead
Previously only available in manuscript form, this euphonium solo with brass band accompaniment is now available in printed format. Euphony (meaning a pleasant, sweet sound) is based on the tunes of Sidney Cox with material taken from the songs; 'He found me', 'This one thing I know', 'You can tell out the sweet story' and 'Deep and wide'. At the time of writing, the composer remarked; 'The euphonium is often associated with melodies and harmonies that lend themselves to pleasing sounds'. That is true of this solo but it also presents considerable technical challenges for the soloist in terms of range and technique.

NONE OTHER NAME (Brass Band Set) - Erik Leidzen
None Other Name was written for the 1960 tour of England by the New York Staff Band of The Salvation Army and can justifiably be termed a classic of brass band repertoire. It is best described as a symphonic medley of six songs focused on the name of Christ; The Saviour's Name; Jesus is the Sweetest Name I know; There's a Wonderful Name, 'tis Jesus; He's the Lily of the Valley; Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee (St. Agnes); All Hal the Power of Jesus' Name (Diadem).

LORD IS KING, The (Brass Band Set) - Ray Steadman-Allen
Ray Steadman-Allen was for many years the driving force in Salvation Army music. His publication list of both brass and vocal works can be measured literally by the hundred. 'The Lord is King' is arguably his crowning achievement of over twenty major works for brass band. Although described as a suite, the work is more symphonic in conception and scale as well as being formidable to perform. The work is based on the Welsh hymn tune 'Llangollen' to which the hymn 'The Lord is King, I own His power' are associated. The three movements derive inspiration from the lines 'My joy, my toil, my craftman's skill, all have their place, and serve His will' found in verse five of the hymn.

Apex - Peter Meechan
Apex was commissioned by Mark Bousie and David Armitage (President of Sellers International Ltd.) for the Sellers International Youth Band to perform at the Action Research Entertainment Contest in Blackpool, 2007. Sentinel - Peter Meechan
Sentinel was written in the summer of 2010 and follows on from another work by the composer, The Karman Line - a piece which describes the point where the earthas atmosphere ends and Outer Space begins.Sentinel goes further into space and takes the idea that the stars are somehow guardians of the sky that we can see, and Space further beyond.The opening section, which prominently features metallic percussion and broad melodies, portrays the grand open space that the stars inhabit. The middle, slower, section is more reflective depicting the isolation of Space, before we hear a reprise of the first section as the finale.Sentinel was written for the 2011 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

I was asked by Music for Youth to write a flexibly scored fanfare for the school proms at the Royal Albert Hall and at their National Festival in Birmingham in 2013. At its first performance at the National Festival, over 200 young brass players performed Flanfayre in Birmingham Town Hall, directed by Roger Argente, members of Superbrass and myself. The score is a progressive romp through some increasingly dance-like grooves, borrowing some of its swing from South America, from marches and big band, moving from a really quite straight opening to a "let-go" moment at the end. It is more like a flan full of different flavours, than a fanfare, hence the title. I set myself a challenge to write 100 bars but ended up with 102, which, after the introduction, can be broken down into 10 easily discernible sections each with their own mini-musical narrative. If you have time feel free to teach the audience the clapping groove. I also modelled the slow moving melody of the final section on the following words; "nothing beats a nice big cheesy, nothing beats a nice big cheesy, nothing beats a nice big cheesy, nothing beats a cheesy flan". The island of Inchcolm was visited by St Columba in 567 and is mentioned in Shakespeare's Macbeth. It lies on the stretch of water beyond my balcony, known locally as "Mortimer's deep", and on short winter days, the ruins of Columba's abbey are shrouded in the mists of the estuary and bring a flavour of mystery and legend to my morning coffee. Music comes easily here amidst the crying of the seabirds, and the horn has given its distinctive voice to history, myth and folklore for centuries. Its sound was born in the wide-open spaces and can paint a broad seascape with ease.
