£24.95Crugybar (Cornet Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
The traditional Welsh tune of Crugybar is most commonly associated with words by Howell Elvet Lewis which appear in the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962; 'The light of the morning is breaking, the shadows are passing away'. The Salvation Army Song Book of 1986 lists two further hymns that can be sung to the tune; 'I stand all bewildered with wonder and gaze on the ocean of love' ( W F Crafts) and 'When Jesus from Calvary called me, unfolding its meaning to me' (Will J Brand). This arrangement was made for Martyn Bryant, the long-serving principal cornetist of Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army.

A wonderful three movement suite which conjures up fabulous musical imagery of the lands of northern England. Well worth including as a concert item in your next programme, but this great original composition should really should be set again as a test-piece soon - rewarding musically for audience and bandsmen alike.Includes:TOP WITHENS - A GENERAL EVOCATION OF THE ATMOSPHERE OF WUTHERING HEIGHTS The sinister opening motif symbolises the influence of the evil Heathcliffe, Soon this motif experiences several changes of character in order to portray emotions other than those of hatred and jealousy. The overall mood is, however, one of gloom and foreboding.THE THREE BELLS This is a reference to the pseudonyms adopted by Ann, Charlotte and Emily Bronte. The music begins with three "bell"-notes; Ab for Acton Bell, Cb for Currer Bell and Eb for Ellis Bell, and these three notes form the basis of a wistful waltz tune. Again the mood is rather sombre -- save for a brighter middle section -- and the opening motif from "Top Withens" is to be heard, again symbolising the frustrations and ill-fortune by which their lives were plagued.THE WORTH VALLEY RAILWAY The Brontes were not the only people in Haworth and not all is desperation and gloom. The third impression is a celebration of the victory of the people of Haworth in their fight to retain their railway. The nine-eight rhythm of a slow train is prominent, and our once-sombre motif is transformed into a triumphant fanfare.Duration: 12.00Please note that there are only 3 solo cornet parts included in this set

This major work was commissioned by Five Lakes Silver Band and its Musical Director Christopher Ward in February 2024, and is featured on the band's CD Resurget Cineribus. The music is based on the hymn tune by Katharina von Schlegel, Be Still, My Soul, found in Sibelius' famous tone poem Finlandia (Op. 26). While the only source material used in Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' is the hymn itself as opposed to any of the developmental music found in the tone poem, it does also seek to depict the strife of the Finnish people against the censorship of the Russian Empire. It is therefore both rousing and turbulent at various times. Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' commences with a quartet playing a full statement of the hymn in its simplest form, featuring a solo flugel. This leads into a sprightly 6/8 section where a fanfare-like figure proclaims the theme. The music in this section is at times unstable and off-kilter as references to the hymn come and go, often in a very chromatic or dissonant form - a reflection of the struggles that the Finnish people went through. Despite this, there is still a sense of optimism. A somewhat reflective slower section follows, featuring another full rendition of the hymn, with a number of solo voices taking up the tune. This is followed by several cadenzas - for cornet, trombone, Eb bass, and Bb bass, which represent different voices speaking out against the oppression of the Finnish people. This leads into an energetic final movement before a resounding proclamation of the hymn in its full glory. A return to the fanfare heard earlier in the work brings the piece to a glorious conclusion. Born during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pageant by Australian composer Barrie Gott transforms the simple interval of a fourth into an engaging, multi-faceted set of variations. Written specifically with 4th Section bands in mind, this work delivers rich textural contrast, clear educational rewards, and a crowd-pleasing arc that moves from regal tradition to high-energy rock. The piece opens with a majestic herald, setting a ceremonial tone as a warm, mellow melody dialogues with bright, fanfare-like brass. From there, the music moves through three distinct stylistic worlds: a delicate, nimble variation inspired by the craft of Eric Ball's A Little Suite for Band; a smooth, lyrical ballad featuring the solo cornet and flugel horn; and a high-energy finale grounded in a driving 6/8 rock groove, bringing the work to a dramatic, cinematic finish. At The Going Down Of The Sun is a deeply moving musical tribute dedicated to the courage, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice of those who have defended the nation of Australia. Inspired by the heroic legacy of the 2/25th Battalion and their storied defense of the Kokoda Track during World War II, this composition serves as a solemn reminder of the immense gratitude owed to its fallen heroes. This piece is born from a legacy of service. It was composed in honor of Keith Fitzpatrick, who enlisted in the AIF on November 28, 1941. Keith served two tours in New Guinea, spending 359 days on the treacherous Kokoda Track. Keith Fitzpatrick lived to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2023, leaving behind a profound legacy through his wife of 67 years, Valda, and three generations of descendants. At The Going Down Of The Sun captures this spirit of endurance and devotion.
