£24.50Keep The Rhythm Going - Neil Brownless
Keep the Rhythm Going was written for Abingdon Concert Band during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic as a tribute to musicians around the world who found ways to play together virtually in order to 'keep the rhythm going'. This exciting piece will be a great opener for any concert or contest programme and is available for both brass band and wind band. When performing the wind band arrangement the Cor Anglais, Eb Clarinet and Alto Clarinet parts are optional and can be omitted without affecting the music. Huntingtower - Ottorino Respighi - Alastair Wheeler
Whilst best known in the Brass Band world for The Pines of Rome, Respighi wrote Huntingtower in 1932 for Concert (wind) Band for a special concert in memory of John Philip Sousa, who had passed away on March 6 of that year. The work was premiered by the US Army Band. With only around 6 weeks to compose the work, his inspiration for the piece came from a visit to Huntingtower Castle in Scotland. A standard in the wind & military band repetoire, the work is available for Brass Band and is a great alternative to some of the traditional Overtures.

A New Dimension Arranged especially for Kirsty Abbotts' solo CD by Stephen Hague, this gem of a piece comes from the salvation army composer Joy Webb (composer of the well known cornet solo "Share My Yoke"). Thyellene depicts of a battle that took place on the 'Tielenheide' - a stretch of moorland near the Belgian village of Tielen in 1597. In that memorable battle Prince Maurice of Nassau, commander of the Dutch army, defeated Count Varax, a general of the Spanish army - with a considerably smaller troop than the enemy. This great heroic subject has been transformed into this equally great work for brass band, which won the third prize at the 2009 European Composers Competition.

£115.60Voluntary Artillery & Rifle Corps March - Endeerby Jackson - Ray Farr
The march was written by Enderby Jackson and performed during a series of brass band events which took place at the Crystal Palace, London 1860 - 1863. Enderby Jackson was the organiser of these historically important events, and also conducted the massed band concerts. The Volunteer Force was a part-time, citizen army created in May 1859 by the British government as a result of increasing tensions between Britain and France. By 1862 more than 200,000 men had enlisted and were paid when on duty however, each member of the corps had to provide his own weapon and equipment.Some of the volunteer corps had bands which normally numbered between six and twelve players plus percussion1 and these bands became an important stimulant to the development of brass band.2 The corps were heavily subsidised by the government and considerable funding was spent on the bands3 which were often local brass bands. These bands were often provided with rehearsal rooms, instruments and uniforms,4 furthermore, the volunteer movement created and saved many brass bands.5Most of the musicians performing at the Crystal Palace Contests were affiliated to the Volunteer Force.

Haexdonck - Guido De Ranter
This work was commissioned by the municipality of Kapelle-op-den-Bos on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of canon Jaak Muyldermans. Haexdonck is the old spelling of the present day region of "Oxdonk" where Jaak Muyldermans lived. In this three-part work the composer describes the different human aspects of canon Muyldermans' rich life. The first part, slow and dreamy, describes the writer/poet. The second dissonant part with much percussion describes his time as an army chaplain during the Great War. The third hymn-like part depicts his time as a priest. This work by Guido De Ranter, a newcomer to composition,is suitable for competitions or concerts.

The Dutch patriottentijd (literally 'Time of the Patriots') was a period of political instability in the 1780s. The country was led by regents who were occupied with their own personal interests rather than dedicating themselves to the needs of the people. In this revolutionary period, the devoted republican Patriots were in conflict with the Orangists. A civil war followed, in which the Patriots were beaten and driven away by a Prussian army. This composition is an abstract piece inspired by the Patriots. The thematic material is based on the Dutch war song 'Merck toch hoe sterck'. Its powerful minor melody, which has its origins in the Eighty Years' War, is recognizablethroughout the work, presented in variations of constantly shifting character.

As long as we can remember, trumpets and percussion have been the instruments most closely associated with the army and its soldiers. Just think of the medieval herald who publicly proclaimed all the king's important announcements. This work opens with a festive fanfare which immediately calls for your attention. No tidings of disaster, but a festive parade of soldiers passing by while whistling merrily. This idea was the composer's starting point when writing this cheerful little piece.

Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to "Nulli Secundus", the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp's own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!

Firestorm - Stephen Bulla
The inspiration for this piece, commissioned by the United States Army Band, came from the Gulf and its constant presentation to the world as a media event on television. The composer wanted to capture the colour and events of war as they were played out on the television screen. Composed as a single movement rhapsody, the work is framed by the riveting sounds of airborne bombing raids with brass and percussion combining to create a gripping sense of tension.
