...Your own Tale? - Lode Violet

...Your own Tale? - Lode Violet - 4'30'' - BVT070 After winning the 1st prize at the Conservatory in Brussels with his arrangement of ‘Die Post’, Lode decided to write an original work for Brass Band Willebroek and dedicated this to the band and his father Frans Violet. The work begins with a soft, dreamy cornet introduction that develops into a lyrical melody. After a short spell with the baritone a second theme comes to life. Dialogues between several instruments brings the composition to it’s climax, and the euphonium and flugel bring rest again. The title '... Your own Tale?' refers to the imagination of the listener, as everyone creates their own story.

An American Tale - Dan Price

Written as the finale of the Cory Band's programme at the Brass in Concert Championships in November 2008, An American Tale is a musical tribute to the American Civil War. The work includes 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic', 'The Girl I Left Behind', 'Kingdom Come', 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', 'The Soldiers Return', 'Turkey in the Straw' and concludes with 'Amazing Grace' - a song synonymous with slavery and selected to conclude the work as a reflection of the war's primary goal. Each of the songs is scored in a psuedo-compositional style of an American composer including John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives and Leonard Bernstein.

Icelandic Hymn - Thorkell Sigurbj?rnsson - Neil Brownless

Based on a poem written in 1208 by chieftain Kolbeinn Tumason on his death bed, the title translates as 'Hear, Smith of Heavens'. It has become one of the most popular hymns in Iceland and has recently been used in the TV series Handmaid's Tale. The music also went viral following an impromptu performance by a choir at a German train station, accumulating over 4 million views. This arrangement brings something totally different to your concerts with an atmospheric setting for brass band, featuring the flugel horn in the opening and closing bars over sung chords from the rest of the band.
