Excuse me, may I play along? Could you step aside, please? 'Step Aside' is a pleasant competition both between two tempi and among the different parts. After a short, slow introduction it is the drummer who, without asking the questions above, sets the high pace. As soon as this rapid movement has been established, 'part 1' takes the lead, but the other parts obviously don't want to miss a thing and follow in rapid succession. At the end of the composition the various parts 'compete' in order to be able to play solo for a while, but soon others join in again, asking 'Excuse me, may I play along?'

It is true that tastes differ. Coffee has known a long history : it has been drunk since the 17th century. On one hand people drink coffee for relaxation, on the other hand it is drunk to ward off tiredness or sleepiness. 'Strong Coffee' composed by Ron Gilmore works both ways. There will be people who will be able to relax during 'Strong Coffee', whereas others will experience it as a real boost. Is it a bit too strong after all, such a funky Soul Beat? Trimbeka is a composition which owes its existence to the anniversary of music society "de Vlecke" in Gorredijk. The name Gorredijk originates from "goor" or "gor", which means : bog. Along the marshy peat ran a "dijk" (the Dutch word for dike), called the Gordijk. The name of the village resembles that of the home town of the composer himself, who comes from a town in Twente called Goor. Three streams used to run through the area around Gorredijk. the historical name Trimbeets (Trimbeka), meaning three brooks, recalls this to mind. Gorredijk was a flourishing "Vlecke", i.e. large village, which was situated on an intersection of important connecting roads.The liveliness which this entailed is one of the distinctive elements in Trimbeka. Furthermore, ominous sounds possibly refer to the dangers of the bog, while the resonance of the merriment during the annual fair can also be heard. The slow middle movement is an ode to the beautiful landscape surrounding the village.

Piet Daalhuisen (Hilversum, 1939) was already known in the world of wind bands because of his medleys 'With a smile to the classics' and 'Pop for the People' (both in splendid wind band arrangements by Marcel Peeters). Here is a new medley For Fans Only, consisting of a series of stirring tunes, arranged for wind band by Walter Kalischnig, a Slovenian musician who settled in The Netherlands back in 1953 and wrote several fine compositions and wind band arrangements.

The life of the Austrian empress Elisabeth (1837-1898) which started as a fairy tale but ended as a tragedy, inspired the librettist Michael Kunze and the composer Silvester Levay to write a musical based on the life of the popular 'Sissi'. The musical was premiered in Vienna on 3 September 1992 and was very successful for many years. The story is told by Luigi Lucheni, Elisabeth's murderer. So death, represented by a mysterious and seductive young man, is omnipresent throughout the musical. Several songs have become hits and, of course, you can hear them in this fine selection by Peter Kleine Schaars who gathered various music and dance styles such as the rock shuffle, the jazz waltz and the classical Viennese waltz.

This concerto was written for and dedicated to the Portuguese tuba player Adelio Carneiro. Composer Carlos Marques who wrote already some successful pieces for Molenaar Edition such as 'Cassiopeia' and 'Transit of Venus' warrants an accessible and excellent wind band orchestration.

German composer Hans Leo Hassler composed this suite at the end of the 16th century. Hassler was a student of the famous composer Gabrieli who mainly wrote for brass ensembles. This is the reason why Hassler, while only composing a relatively smaller amount of work, composed mainly for the same type of ensemble. This arrangement from Jan van Beekum is characteristic of it's time and is for a 5 voice, flexible setting and percussion.
