However, the following sequence of ideas may sometimes prove useful in presenting the work to audiences.Under Divine compulsion, Jacob sets out with Family, retainers, servants and cattle, to return to his homeland (Introduction and Sections 1 - 3).He is brought news of possible attack by his estranged brother Esau (Sections 4 - 6).Jacob seeks guidance in a lone vigil and, wrestling with a divine visitor, at last wins acceptance at the place he names Peniel--The Prince of God. Fanfare of a Nation (2012) was commissioned by the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble as a short fanfare for ten brass players plus percussion, and was performed in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of their visit to Wales to mark the Diamond Jubilee, under its original title The Royal Diamond Jubilee Fanfare. The fanfare has since been performed throughout the UK with both its original instrumentation, and also the extended full brass band version. This short work mesmerizes, dazzles and utilizes the fanfare effects so often associated with the brass family.Instrumentation - 4 x Trumpets, 1 x Horn in F, 3 x Tenor Trombones, 1 x Bass Trombone, 1 x Tuba, 1 x PercussionNote - Trumpet 1 is available in both E-flat & B-flat, Horn in F is available in E-flat, Tenor Trombone and Tuba parts available in both treble or bass clef.

Occasional Overture - Benjamin Britten
Benjamin Britten composed his Occasional Overture Op.38, for the opening of the BBC Third Programme on 29th September 1946, when it was performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Adrian Boult. It was not heard again until 1982, when the composer's Executors decided that it should be revived. Given the dominance of brass and woodwind in this concise but exciting work, versions for brass band and wind band have been prepared for Britten's centenary year.Brass Band Grade 6: Championship.Duration: 8 Minutes.

In Dreams - Roy Orbison - Len Jenkins
"In Dreams" is a song composed and sung by rock and roll performer Roy Orbison, and was released as a single on Monument Records in February 1963. Orbison later claimed that the origin for "In Dreams" came to him while he was sleeping, as many of his songs did. When he woke up the next morning, the entire composition was written in 20 minutes. Like many of Orbison's songs, but unlike the majority of rock and roll ballads, in under 3 minutes it goes through seven movements with distinct melodies and chord progressions without repeating itself. It was for that reason that I have always believed it was a suitable piece for brass where one does not have lyrics to distinguish changes between verses to avoid monotony. Graham Cooper
