The 1960`s - no, not Carnaby Street, and not a television script in sight for years to come, but a youth walk through the Langdale Valley, and up onto Great Langdale and Little Langdale in the English Lake District. One whole month of 'Outward Bound', onto the hills and fells, culminating once 'acclimatised', with the successful attempt up to the summit of Scafell Pike. Upon the return to the Lake District 40 years later, gear stick and clutch superceded boots and rucksack.

ELOISE (Brass Band) - Ryan, Paul - Sparke, Philip

Paul and Barry Ryan were identical twin sons of 1950's pop singer Marion Ryan and were born on 24th October 1948. They were groomed for stardom and had started singing as a duo before their fifteenth birthday. They were signed by Decca in 1965 and brilliantly marketed as clean-cut fashion icons. Their first single 'Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches' reached the UK top twenty but their success as twin performers lasted only three years. In 1968 Barry embarked on a solo career while Paul concentrated on writing and producing. Eloise with its melodramatic vocal style and heavily orchestrated backing was an early success of this new collaboration and went on to be covered by a variety of artists, including punk legends The Damned Grade Medium Duration 5:30

    Twins - Jan Hadermann

Twins is a composition about two children, born at the same moment, growing up together yet with totally different characters. One twin is sensitive and introverted whilst the other is much more lively and energetic. This is reflected in the musical motifs of the piece. The quiet first melody which gains tension through continuous transposition is succeeded by the joyous rocking melody of the second twin.

Lament by Frank Bridge (arr. for brass band by Paul Hindmarsh)

English composer Frank Bridge (1879 – 1941) composed Lament on 14 June 1915, in memory of Catherine Crompton, who drowned when the Cunard liner Lusitania was torpedoed by a German submarine on 7 May, 1915 off the coast of Ireland. 1201 men, women and children lost their lives out of the 1962 people aboard. Ninety-four children died, including Catherine, her twin brother Paul and four other siblings. Paul Crompton, Snr. (44), a British businessman working in Philadelphia, his wife Gladys (40) and the family nanny were also drowned. How Bridge’s dedication came about is uncertain. One contemporary source says that Bridge knew the family, but it is also possible that he came across the family photograph which was published in many newspapers in the wake of the sinking. His response to this personal tragedy was characteristically spontaneous and utterly sincere. It is one of his most effective miniatures, poignant yet restrained in its lyrical beauty, with compelling directness and simplicity. This arrangement was made for performance at the 2015 RNCM Festival of Brass where it was beautifully performed by Cory Band under Philip Harper.Duration: 4-5 mins Score and parts ?35, plus postage and packing Score: ?10PHM Catalogue No. PHM010

Fabric in Brass - Michael Golding

A lyrical central section features Solo Horn and Euphonium, and builds to a moving climax, before the recapitulation of the main theme leads to a rousing finale! The first performance was given by National Australia Brass directed by Professor David King, on the 24th October 2009, in Twin Towns, Gold Coast, Australia.
