March - Proud to serve (Ray Steadman-Allen)One of the last works written by Lt. Colonel Ray Steadman-Allen and dedicated to the Chatham Corps, this march was featured by the International Staff Band at the composers tribute evening at the Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham in 2015. The tunes featured are 'By the pathway of duty' and 'Marching Along'.Song Setting - His Grace! (Noel Jones)Noel Jones has for many years provided music of an attractive and accessible nature. No. 2134 Festival March - Troops Salute (Paul Sharman)Written to mark the retirement of Major John Mott as Bandmaster of the Household Troops Band in 2010, this march features the tunes 'Are you washed?' and 'There's only one flag for me'. No. 2135 Songs of Salvation (Andrew Mackereth)This piece was written for Haaglanden Band in the Netherlands and contains some old Salvation Army Songs; 'Ring the bell, watchman' (T.B. 776), 'Make no delay' (T.B.730), 'Room for Jesus' (T.B. 395), 'Tell me the old, old story' (T.B. 265) and 'Praise God, I'm saved' (T.B. 770).No. 2136 Shepherd's Carol (Dean Jones arr. Kenneth Downie)Originally published in November 1955, this lovely carol was written by father and son, Dean and Henry Goffin, both of whom were Salvation Army officers. Commissioner Sir Dean Goffin was awarded his kinghthood in the Queen's Honours list of 1983No. 2137 On High! (Martin Cordner)Taking its inspiration from the world of rock music, this piece features the song, 'Lord, I lift your name on high'.

This short, light-hearted solo has been described as The Salvation Army's answer to 'The flight of the bumble bee' and requires facility from the soloist and accurate accompaniment from the band. The solo opens and closes with whimsical references to Erik Leidzen's famous euphonium solo 'The Song of the Brother' and includes the tunes 'A robe of white' and 'I'll serve Thee'.

Previously only available in manuscript form, this euphonium solo with brass band accompaniment is now available in printed format. Euphony (meaning a pleasant, sweet sound) is based on the tunes of Sidney Cox with material taken from the songs; 'He found me', 'This one thing I know', 'You can tell out the sweet story' and 'Deep and wide'. At the time of writing, the composer remarked; 'The euphonium is often associated with melodies and harmonies that lend themselves to pleasing sounds'. That is true of this solo but it also presents considerable technical challenges for the soloist in terms of range and technique.

In writing this piece I set out to emulate the sound of the Stan Kenton big band and music of that 'golden' era. The piece itself is based around two Salvation Army tunes that are associated with the word, 'salvation'; Steadily forward march! (T.B. 799) and Hark, hark, my soul (T.B.542).The music is intentionally flamboyant and requires a secure grasp of the style and rhythm to be successful. It was featured at the Belfast Temple Music School to great effect.Andrew Mackereth

No. 1215 March - Merthyr Tydfil No.34 (Paul Sharman)This march was written at the request of Bandmaster Howard Roberts to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Merthyr Tydfil Corps, corps number 34 in The Salvation Army. The tunes used have obvious Welsh connections wit 'Cwm Rhonnda' and 'Aberystwyth' being featured. 'Aberystwyth' was written by Joseph Parry who lived in Merthyr Tydfil for a while.No. 1216 Mambo - Mighty God (Steven Ponsford)Based on words from Isaiah 9, 'Mighty God' is a song of worship and assurance by Chris Bowater and helen and Mark Johnson. This arrangement will afford bands the opportunity to engage the audience into a lively segment of praise.No. 1217 Song Setting - Jesus, I come (Michael Davis)A setting of George C Stebbins' beautiful melody 'Out of my bondage'.No. 1218 O rock, all ye faithful (William Gordon)The Christmas carol 'O come, all ye faithful' is arranged here in a 'rock' style and includes references to other well known Christmas carols.

£59.95That Promised Land - Jonathan Bates
DURATION: 8 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 1st+. That Promised Land was the culmination of 5 years of my personal interest in spiritual music since performing Michael Tippett's wonderful Oratorio 'A Child of Our Time' at the RNCM. Tippett's work combines original material, with music inspired and based upon spirituals, whilst all of the major 'chorus' sections are direct settings of those tunes. This was a work that had stuck with me for a long time, and one I tried to emulate in a smaller form with this work. The title is a quote from one of the verses of the spiritual 'Deep River'. This piece was composed for Jaren Hornmusikkforening as part of their programme for the 2018 SIDDIS Championships held in Stavanger, Norway. .
