£60.99Conzensus (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This stately concert opener was originally written by Jan Van der Roost for a special event in which six respected wind orchestras (two Belgian and four Dutch) of different composition (two symphonic bands, two fanfare bands and two brass bands) were featured during six concerts. Each evening brought forth a performance by a symphonic band, a fanfare, and brass band, so that the audience could experience all three types of ensembles. This was indeed an original concept. The name, ConZEnSus, comes from a combination of the words, 'Concert Cyclus' (concert series) and 'zes' (Dutch for 'six'). This leads to a new word, which refers to 'consensus'. The general tenor of the cycle is thus immediately indicated. The richness of color of the various ensembles is revealed through an open and friendly atmosphere. During all six concerts (over a span of three years), ConZEnSus functioned as a permanent opening number for each orchestra. Thus the same musical story was portrayed in three different packages.Duration: 2:30

Twins is a composition about two children, born at the same moment, growing up together yet with totally different characters. One twin is sensitive and introverted whilst the other is much more lively and energetic. This is reflected in the musical motifs of the piece. Programme Notes:Certain phases of Life are common to most if not all men and the music of the Tone Poem carries the listener through four of such phases.a) In the Andante Molto Maestoso a man's outlook on Life as a thing of seriousness and dignity is shown.b) The Allegro Vivace which follow shows him facing its problems with a spirit of vigorous optimism, while two tributary themes suggest that Life, with all its seriousness, is not devoid of humour and happiness.c) The short section which follows, Maestoso, is a reminder that times of stress and trouble are inevitable but these are quickly dispelled by thed) Andante Nobilemente, portraying the helping and ennobling power of true love.The music again proceeds to review these four phases of Life, the concluding section showing Love triumphant over all.

Leviathan began its evolution as a workshop work inspired by the poem written by Heathcote Williams entitled; Whale Nation. At the time of this workshop the tentet brass repertoire existed of extremely well written original or arranged works of a lighter nature but there was a shortage of works with a greater emotional depth and edge, hence Leviathan's early conception as an atmospheric and emotive work. The workshop piece explored whale sound and song and was a 25-minute work in two parts. After many years of the workshop sketches sitting dormant the new work Leviathan is a much shorter and concise work. It contains only one of the original melodic themes of the workshop work. Leviathan is driven and underpinned by melodic and rhythmic elements. It is a programmed work following the awe inspiring majestic might and beauty of whales through to a hunt scene, the chase and the ultimate demise of earth's largest mammal.

You'd be so nice to come home to - Cole Porter - Len Jenkins
This sideways glance at the Cole Porter masterpiece written for the 1943 film 'Something to shout about', is arranged to feature the flugel and tenor horns, and comprises an up-tempo romp through several variations upon the main theme. Everyone in the Band is kept busy throughout, and a strong rhythmic pulse keeps the music very definitely alive!

Bernie's Song - Miller/Leiber/Stoller ver.Mulligan, arr.John Dankworth - Len Jenkins
Bernie's Tune is a 1953 jazz standard with music written by Bernie Miller and lyrics by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was popularised through a recording by the quartet of the American saxophonist and composer Gerry Mulligan, and the tune was a popular choice for musicians jamming at the time. Information about the composer is scarce. All that people really know of him is that he was a piano player from Washington DC. Gerry Mulligan's version was subsequently arranged by the late, legendary John Dankworth and this arrangement for brass band has been faithfully based on it to evoke the atmosphere of that golden era.

Composer Evelyn Glennie writes... "When I wrote the chorale for marimba, A Little Prayer, it expressed my spiritual feelings and displayed a pleasantly relaxed dimension of the instrument. Over the years my exposure to brass bands has filled me with wonder; their musical diversity is considerable. From performing a simple melody to the most complex of test-pieces, they bring brilliance to the music. I had no hesitation in giving A Little Prayer to Robert Childs to bring this little melody to life through brass." A perfect reflective interlude for concert or devotional use by bands of all abilities. This is the only version of this arrangement available for sale to the public.
