£33.67Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' (Brass Band - Full Score Print) Andrew Wainwright
This major work was commissioned by Five Lakes Silver Band and its Musical Director Christopher Ward in February 2024, and is featured on the band's CD Resurget Cineribus. The music is based on the hymn tune by Katharina von Schlegel, Be Still, My Soul, found in Sibelius' famous tone poem Finlandia (Op. 26). While the only source material used in Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' is the hymn itself as opposed to any of the developmental music found in the tone poem, it does also seek to depict the strife of the Finnish people against the censorship of the Russian Empire. It is therefore both rousing and turbulent at various times. Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' commences with a quartet playing a full statement of the hymn in its simplest form, featuring a solo flugel. This leads into a sprightly 6/8 section where a fanfare-like figure proclaims the theme. The music in this section is at times unstable and off-kilter as references to the hymn come and go, often in a very chromatic or dissonant form - a reflection of the struggles that the Finnish people went through. Despite this, there is still a sense of optimism. A somewhat reflective slower section follows, featuring another full rendition of the hymn, with a number of solo voices taking up the tune. This is followed by several cadenzas - for cornet, trombone, Eb bass, and Bb bass, which represent different voices speaking out against the oppression of the Finnish people. This leads into an energetic final movement before a resounding proclamation of the hymn in its full glory. A return to the fanfare heard earlier in the work brings the piece to a glorious conclusion. Walk on By - Bacharach-David - Haakon Esplo
"Walk on By" is an American song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was written for Dionne Warwick. Her recording was released in April 1964 to great success.It reached a sixth place on the American Billboard Hot 100 list and a first place at Cashbox 'R & B. The song was a short time on Top 10 on the Billboard Easy Listening List. Warwick also recorded a German version entitled "Geh vorbei".Like many of Warwicks Bacharach-composed songs from the 1960s, many cover versions were made. £104.99Variations on a Chord (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
Variations on a Chord was composed on the occasion of the second lustrum of the Dutch Brass Band Championships celebrated in 1990. The piece is the immediate sequel to Contrasten a piece which was composed in 1986, and which is performed all over the world. Not only was the final chord of this previous work used as a starting point for the new composition, but Variations on a Chord is also the first concert piece for brass band composed by Jan de Haan since then. The several variations are based on a solemn theme. The so-called minor-major seventh chord is easily detectable. The structure of the piece is such that the lyrical theme is preceded by a majestic introduction, and is followed by eight variations each strongly contrasting in character. The piece finishes in a short but extremely spectacular coda.Duration: 11:45

Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' was written for the inaugural Texas Brass Fest, held at Round Top Festival Institute on 27 May 2023, for the four premier brass bands in Texas - Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio Brass Bands. It is based on the much loved hymn of the church by Charles Wesley, which is also known as 'O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing', the first verse of which reads: O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! For maximum effect it is suggested that cornets and trombones are staged stood around the band, although if this is not possible then traditional band formation will be acceptable. £59.86Variations on 'Sine Nomine' (Brass Band) Andrew Wainwright
This magnificent work was written in 2019 for the London Central Fellowship Band and Bandmaster David Rudd. It is based on the hymn tune by Ralph Vaughan Williams, which is also known as For all the Saints. Its release in the summer of 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams' birth. The work is set in four contrasting movements, which follow an opening statement of the hymn in its full form. Variation I (Leggiero) is based on the first few notes of the chorale and is lively and sprightly in nature, with regular time changes permeating throughout. There are regular statements of the hymn, with the movement closing with a full statement of the tune in its full glory. Variation II (Andante Espressivo) derives its material from the final strain of the verse. The music is generally calm and ethereal in nature before building to an impassioned fortissimo featuring the full band, and finally dying away. Variation III (Allegro Vivace) is in compound time and, like Variation I, is based on the first few notes of the hymn. The music is joyful and playful, epitomised by syncopated rhythms, and snippets of the tune are heard throughout. Variation IV (Allegro Giocoso) is in the form of a fugue which commences with the cornets, before the theme is handed to each section of the band at various points. After several statements of the theme, the music grows into the final strain of the chorale, which is given a grandiose setting. A frenzied Presto coda leads into organ-like chords, before a series of upward major scales bring the work to its final chord. Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song (Bra) - Simon Van Hoecke
'Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song' was commissioned by Jeroen Berwaerts and VLAMO for the gala concert of the European Brass Band Championships 2017. These took place in the Belgian seaside town of Ostend, which explains the choice to make a fantasy on the sailor's song "Al die willen te kap'ren varen". A first reference to the song can be found in a Ghent song collection from 1856 by E. de Coussemaker: "Chants populaires des Flamands de France". The fantasia is faithful to tradition composed in a free form with variation elements and allows the soloist to showcase virtuosity and narrative power.
