£44.31Boreas: The North Wind (Brass Band) Derek Jenkins
Boreas was an ancient Greek deity personifying the north wind. He was a winged god of ruthless disposition, which was rivaled only by the harsh wintry winds at his command. Boreas fell in love with Orithyia, the King's daughter. Contrary to his genuine nature, he attempted to woo her with sweet words of devotion. His efforts were in vain, and Orithyia failed to yield to his advances. With this rejection, Boreas's temper flared and he, once again, was overcome by his icy and merciless nature. Like Boreas, this work begins with slow, lyrical lines that quickly fade into an unrelenting fury of anger. Moments reminiscent of Boreas's words of affection appear, but they are quickly washed away as the piece escalates. This arrangement was written for Joseph Parisi and the Fountain City Brass Band as a small token of thanks. The original version for wind ensemble was commissioned by and written for Timothy Shade and the Bethel College Wind Ensemble. Beaufort Fanfare, by German composer Friedrich Gattermann, is a dynamic and vibrant musical work inspired by the Beaufort scale, a system for estimating wind speeds. Originally composed for brass ensemble and percussion, it was created to showcase Orchestral Tools' Beaufort Brass sample library, recorded at the iconic AIR Studios in London. Here it has been set for brass band. A central element of Beaufort Fanfare is its exploration of musical density. The piece begins with a single motif and gradually builds in complexity and richness, reflecting the increasing strength of the wind. As it progresses, the music intensifies, with the development of density playing a crucial role in conveying the evolving character of the elements. Through intricate brass harmonies and rhythmic drive, Beaufort Fanfare captures both the awe-inspiring beauty and raw power of nature. More than just an auditory experience, this composition takes the listener on a journey through the elements, celebrating the force of wind in all its forms. Song of Hope - Peter Meechan
Song of Hope is dedicated to my good friend Ryan Anthony (principal trumpet with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra) and his charity, Cancer Blows - a foundation set up to raise awareness and money to further the research that has helped give their family a hope for a future following Ryanas diagnosis of Multiple MyelomaUpon hearing the middle movement (simply titled aSonga) of my cornet concerto, Milestone, Ryan asked me if I could change the end from its current reflective ending to something more uplifting, and to title it Song of Hope, giving it much more meaning than I could have ever imagined.As well as a wind band scoring without soloist, Song of Hope exists with 1, 2 or 3 soloists, accompanied by either wind band, brass band, brass ensemble or symphony orchestra.For my friend Ryan.Each set comes with the soloist part for 1 soloist. "All the best!" These words expressing good fortune are often heard at occasions such as birthdays, or other changes life may bring. The music association in Rickenbach, Germany, wanted an upbeat concert work to celebrate its anniversary, as a kind of signature tune for the band. Otto M. schwarz had already composed several pieces in this genre, such as Fire & Ice, Last Call, and Funky Brass, to name but a few, and is constantly trying to transport new sounds and bold rhythmic ideas into the world of wind music. schwarz composes original works for wind band and his pieces are specifically tailored to exploit all the possibilities of this instrumentation. Prillar&Halling - for Solo Clarinet and Wind Band - Stig Nordhagen
"Prillar" has it's origin from Norwegian folklorist music. It's a way of calling and singing the cattle home from the fields. Halling is a wellknown folk dance from the valleys in the eastern part of Norway.In this work, the clarinet use the prillar to get the other musicians to join in.The melodic material in Prillar and Halling hasn't got all the sound of Norwegian folklore exclusively. You can also hear folkloric music from other nations. The idea is to show the similarities between these and also the small differences there are between folkloristic elements from a large area. The piece also contains the folk tune "Adam in paradise", from south of Norway. At the end, the tunes are stacked on top of each other, and the similarities of origin turns out.- Stig Nordhagen -
