The Latin word "Introitus" means 'entry'. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan's Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum.Duration: 4:00

The title Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) can he interpreted on a number of levels. Musically it has a rather mystical feel to it,?and the single note with which the piece begins continues uninterrupted throughout, like an inextinguishable flame, or?a constant source of hope. There are lyrical and song like solo lines for cornet, flugel and euphonium. This composition was performed as part of the Cory Band's winning Brass in Concert programme in 2012.

In 1982, rock band Toto scored a worldwide hit with Rosanna. This song is more than five minutes long, much longer than was usual for hits at the time, though perhaps it was exactly this fact that contributed to its enormous success. The Southern Cross is one of several excellent marches by Brian Bowen in which he carried on the more sophisticated pattern of British marches by Wilfred Heaton, Leslie Condon and Ray Steadman-Allen. It was written for the Box Hill (Australia) Corps jubilee celebrations in 1970 and formed part of the band's repertoire when it toured Great Britain in the same year. The first half of the march features part of the song, 'March on!' by Klaus Ostby, an early pioneer of Salvation Army music in Scandinavia. The contrapuntal layering of melodies in the trio, especially in the finale where 'March on!' sounds one more triumphant time, is notable, as is the shift to a slower, more stately tempo. The harmonic and rhythmic style also represents the more modern sounds of Salvation Army brass band music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Right from the opening gestures, listeners at early performances knew that a page had turned in the evolution of the Salvation Army march.

Deep Harmony (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Pullin, Stuart
Stuart Pullin unfortunately passed away at a very early age, just 32, but leaves a wonderful legacy of compositions. It was his wish that this moving arrangement of 'Deep Harmony' be donated to The Salvation Army for publication so that it can now be played and appreciated by all.
