King Of The Road - Rodger Miller - Lee Rogers
If there was one song that would encapsulate the laid back, easy-going nature of the bass trombone player - this is it! Roger Miller's classic 1964 song has now been skilfully arranged by Lee Rogers which can feature either the bass trombone or Eb Bass. The band parts also enjoy the laid back nature of the soloist with the melody featuring throughout different sections. Recorded by Dean Martin, The Proclaimers, Jerry Lee Lewis & countless other, this item is pure entertainment and just begs for the soloist to endure the "hobo" look as the song's lyrics describes. A must for all bands.

During an interval at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, Michael Flatley & the 'Riverdance' cast took the world by storm and continued to achieve worldwide success. Michael Flatley left 'Riverdance' with the dream of creating a show that was suitable for performances in arenas and not just traditional theatres - 'The Lord Of The Dance' was born. Using the traditional US shaker hymn 'The Lord of the Dance' as the shows main theme, Ronan Hardiman adapted the music to be bursting with life. This arrangement by Gavin Somerset is full of excitement and energy, arranged to ensure this effect is playable by most levels of bands. A real crowd pleaser & finale act that will have the audiences on their feet!

John Rutter's Magnificat (Magnificat anima mea), first performed in 1990, opens with bold fanfares and syncopation which captures the listeners attention from the very first note. The work was originally composed for chamber orchestra and SATB choir. The SATB parts are also included in the score with this publication allowing bands if they wish, to perform with work alongside a full choir. Transcribed directly from the composers original score, Rutter's music is full of strong melodic lines and gorgeous harmonies. Full of hair raising moments, it lends itself perfectly to Brass Bands and this opening movement is a must have for bands wanting to add something new and challenging to their classical repertoire.

Whilst many will not know the music by name, upon hearing a few bars, the music is recognisable as one of Handel's most famous works. This however was not always the case. 'Ombra Mai Fu' is the opening Aria from the opera 'Serse' which was a failure upon its release, lasting only five performances following its premiere. Thankfully the work was rediscovered some years later and became one of the most famous classical music pieces we know today. Originally composed to be performed by a castrato singer, Jonathan Bates has now arranged this timeless classic into a beautiful cornet solo that would feature well in both the concert hall and bandstand.

BrassFesk UK is back for 2022 after a break following the pandemic and with it, comes the traditional new commission and anthem. Recorded by the European Champions, the Cory Band, this year's anthem is an arrangement of well-known UK traditional songs to coincide with the Queen's Jubilee. The work has been written in the style of Gordon Langford, one of the Brass Band world's leading arrangers and so as you expect, there are some fantastic parts to play for all areas of the band to enjoy. This foot-tapping release continues to follow the previous BrassFest UK anthems that have gone before it, ensuring a fun piece of music to both play and listen to. This novelty song is known worldwide following multiple recordings by Billy Jones, Billy Murray, Arthur Hall, Irving Kaufman, and others. Benny Goodman and his Orchestra also recorded the work which has helped keep up the songs popularity since its initial release in 1923. Writer Frank Silver may have been influenced by an actual shortage of Gros Michel bananas in the early 20th century. Now arranged as a trombone solo, this arrangement has two parts; the first being accessible to most soloists with an optional continued section, which is more intricate for more advanced soloists to enjoy. A great audience pleaser and repertoire item.
