Brass Monkey's Christmas - Gavin Somerset

With so many bands now using the Brass Monkeys publications with their training bands, this latest release of the 'Brass Monkeys' series is our largest to date and includes a variety of works from the festive season. In this substantial publication of music, simple carols are included that can be performed to accompany an audience singing, or as standalone items. Some novelty choices of music have been included too. The 'Little Drummer Boy' is designed to give your budding percussionist the limelight they've craved all year around, whilst 'O Holy Night' will teach your front row the importance of the 12/8 time signature. Of course, no Christmas compilation would be complete without 'Jingle Bells' & 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'. This publication will ensure your Brass Monkeys are not left out in the cold this Christmas! Christmas Truce, The - Jonathan Bates

DURATION: 7'30". DIFFICULTY: 2nd Section+. 'The Christmas Truce' was composed in 2018 for the Strata Brass Band and was used as part of their Christmas programme to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War. On the 24th December 1914, just a few weeks after war broke out, one of the most notable events of the 4-year conflict took place on the front line as the guns from both sides fell silent and soldiers came together on Christmas Eve. This composition for brass band and narrator tells the story of that night, painting a musical picture of the events as they unfolded. Using material from the carols 'In The Bleak Midwinter', 'O Tannenbaum' and 'Silent Night', the music weaves it's way around the events leading upto, during, and directly following the Christmas Truce, before culminating in a grand finale which incorporates the famous "the souls of the righteous are in the hands of God" quote from Eric Ball's 'Resurgam'. . .

The Snow Carol - Harper, P

The Snow Carol (For Choir and Brass Band/Pianoforte) is an original melody, although the words have been adapted from the German song Snow Falls Softly at Night. Some of the harmonies of the carol have been borrowed from Gustav Holst and his celebrated setting of In the Bleak Midwinter. The upper band play muted in a minimalist style likr flurrying snow. None of the parts are technically difficult and most are repetitive, although players will have to count carefully and play with tight rhythm.

Folk Dance and Carol (brass band) - Tim Paton

A festive, musical cocktail by Tim Paton for brass band, bringing together a folk-feel dance motif and a familiar carol, to create the atmosphere of a village celebration.Opening with a lively Jig, where the music joyfully dances around the band, the piece then settles to offer the tranquility of Gustav Holst's beautiful melody In the Bleak Mid-Winter.This peacefulness is soon overtaken by the reintroduction of the dance motif, finishing off the musical celebration with the dance and the carol mingling together.A very nice addition to Christmas repertoire, presenting a little bit of tradition amidst some lovely, imaginative scoring. Also available for concert band.
