The work carries an important message: every farewell is also an opportunity for a new beginning; a moment to cherish with a little smile.This atmospheric work opens with subdued, warm brass sounds that create a sense of intimacy. Through alternating (smaller) instrumentations, it builds up to a sonorous tutti climax, eventually leading to a subdued mood again. The closing passage offers room for reflection, memories, and gratitude.Farewell With a Little Smile is a beautiful, solemn composition suitable for countless occasions. Whether the work serves as a resting point in a concert programme or is used to frame a meaningful farewell, this music will add lustre to numerous precious moments.

Pulse is a solo work for euphonium and brass band. As the title suggests, this piece is very rhythmic in nature. Pulse represents life and vitality, which also characterises the work. The tempo remains virtually constant throughout the piece. Even during the cadenza, played by the euphonium, the pulse of the timpani continues to beat steadily. Even though the piece stays at a constant tempo, it can be performed at half speed.

The different styles within the piece provide lots of variety, requiring refined technique and a great deal of flexibility from the soloist. This composition was commissioned by Georg Pranger, to whom the piece is also dedicated. As a pioneer of the Austrian euphonium soloist scene, Pranger is committed to the 'unshackling' of this wonderful instrument and the creation of great musical momentum, as achieved by this commission.
