Midwinter is a Christmas song about how the holiday can be a highlight even in the darkest winters. The piece was originally written for brass quartet and choir, for Oslofjord Brass and Vivo Vokal's Christmas concert in 2019. This arrangement for full band can be performed both with and without choir.If the piece is performed together with a choir, the dynamics of the band must be balanced with regard to the size of the choir, possibly using sound amplification if necessary.Choir Parts (SATB) for sale separately.

Norge i rodt, hvitt og blatt ("Norway in Red, White and Blue") was commissioned by the Oslo Fagott Choir (yes, that is indeed a gay men's choir) for a concert with The Staff Band of the Armed Forces in 2015. I was given artistic licence to write a more modern and somewhat 'eclectic' arrangement for this originally Swedish melody written by Lars-Erik Larsson, which became something of a national liberation anthem when Nazi occupation ended in May 1945 - then with new lyrics by Finn Bo, Bias Bernhoft and Arild Feldborg.After the premiere in Oslo, and a music video with Oslo Fagott Choir and The Staff Band, broadcasted by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Constitution Day during coronavirus lockdown in 2020, I was approached by many to write an instrumental version of the arrangement for concert band. This version is now available through Norsk Noteservice. Reid Gilje has made this instrumentation for Brass Band.

"Saele Jolekveld" was arranged for Concert Band to Kongelige Norske Marines Musikkorps (The Royal Norwegian Navy Band) and their CD-recording "Julestemning"(2009) featuring Solveig Kringlebotn as soprano soloist and the choir of Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ingar Bergby.The arrangement works very well for a collaborative concert for band and SATB choir and possible soprano soloist. However it will also work well also for concert band alone.

With Sweet Jubilation - James Curnow
Explore different settings of the Medieval Latin carol "In Dulci Jubilo" via this solid arrangement by James Curnow. Opening with an exquisite "Brass Choir" section a la Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) and progressing through a "Woodwind Choir" section in the later J.S.Bach style, WITH SWEET JUBILATION is wonderful "style study" material. The grace of the early masters and the clearly focused unifying concept of the arrangement by James Curnow combine to make this addition to the Curnow Music Press "Splendor of Christmas Series" a wonderful holiday experience for the young band.

The chorale Glory to God on High is one of todays most often sung hymns. The words are an expression of praise to God and gratefulness for his mercy. Fantasia di Pasqua is a fantasy in which traditional Easter melodies have been used. The work is written for brass band with a separate brass quartet which, since this music is often performed in churches, the composer suggests should be positioned on a gallery. This creates a double choir effect and perfectly fits the Renaissance-like style. Each of the melodies is played in various dance-like cadences that, partly because of the double choir effect, will result in a very lively and original performance.

Jacob de Haan begins his arrangement of the well-known hymn Allein Gott in der Hoh' sei Ehr (All Glory Be to God on High) with a quotation from his own Missa Katharina, a mass for choir, soprano, and band. To this melody he sets the Latin text from the last part of the Gloria. The chorale is then heard after an interlude and can, at the director's discretion, be accompanied by the choir singing in either German or English. A perfect work for church concerts.

The fantasy called Christmas Day was originally written for Mixed Choir with Orchestra or Organ accompaniment. Robert van Beringen has arranged this work for concert band exactly 100 years later.
