Complete score and full set of parts for Philip Sparke's Suite From Hymn To The Highlands for Brass Band. This work draws three expressive musical pictures of the Scottish highlands. The first movement, Ardross Castle, contains solo passages for horn and baritone and features a fascinating bagpipe melody. The second movement, Alladale, is a trio for tenor horn, flugel horn and baritone with an accompaniment featuring the percussion section. The final movement, Dundonnell,features two highly contrasting melodies, a wild presto and the bagpipe melody first heard in the first movement.

The Big Blow', was a formal record attempt to create the largest brass band in the world. It took place at Butlin's Resort, Skegness on 20 January 27 and in addition to the fun generated by the event itself, it's main goal was to raise money in support of the work of Brass Band Aid, and specifically to provide long-term sponsorship for two children in the village of Adet, Ethiopia.The Music Company (UK) Ltd were one of the Official Partners of The Big Blow, providing the performance piece for the record attempt. As Editorial Director of the company, Andrew Duncan wrote 'Zephyrus' to mark the occasion.Originally presented at the event as 'March - The Big Blow', the published re-titling of 'Zephyrus' provides a more subtle alternative, taking its name from the Greek God of the West Winds.'Zephyrus' is a traditional British brass band march with an interesting African-feel lilt to the trio. This is enhanced by optional percussion instruments including djembi and bongos, which can also be covered by standard drum kit. A positive, upbeat concert march to reflect the sentiment behind 'The Big Blow' record attempt.There were 443 participants in total, including:Soprano Cornets x 12Cornets x 152Flugels x 19Tenor Horns x 68Baritones x 32Euphoniums x 32Trombones x 55Eb Basses x 35Bb Basses x 17Percussionists x 21The Music Company are pleased to continue their support of Brass Band Aid by offering a donation to this worthy charity for every set of this music sold.

Originally conceived as a trombone duet for the graduation recital of Andy Brooks at Western University, this setting of Matt Merker's popular choral work has been adapted by Noel Brooks as a featured work for trombone trio with brass band. The arrangement follows the emotional arc of the hymn's lyrics, utilising the brass band's colours to reflect the themes of each verse. The journey begins with a sense of vulnerability; the accompaniment is kept sparse and cold to echo the text's plea regarding a failing faith. In the second verse, the music transitions into a more encouraging and uplifted atmosphere, reflecting the assurance of being "precious in His Holy sight." A shift occurs in the third verse, which takes on a darker, more reflective character to support the gravity of the lyrics. This contemplative section builds steadily toward the final chorus, where a sense of confidence returns. The work culminates in a strong musical statement of the hymn's central promise: "He will hold me fast." This is a concert march with a difference!The whole of the first section is in minor mode - unusual and intended to depict the trials and tribulations which inspired the original (and now successfully completed) Africa-based projects of Brass Band Aid. The Trio then goes into the major and begins with a Prayer motif that starts with the notes B-B-A. Following a rather turbulent episode (a reminder that there is still much to do), the Prayer theme returns triumphantly, reflecting optimism for the future.Roy Newsome composed this work in support of a charitable project, known in 2005 as Brass Band Aid. The organisation called for original compositions to be included in a follow-up CD release - Into Africato help raise funds for projects in Adet, Africa, and to build awareness of theMake Poverty History campaign. African Adventure was featured on the CD with a recording by the Wingates Band.Now that the original BBA projects are complete, funds raised by the titles we publish from theBrass Band Aidseries continue to support other music-related projects on a regular basis.
