My soul, rejoice (Andrew Wainwright) was commissioned in 2022 by Elizabeth Malovance, principal cornet of the Chicago Staff Band. A spirited and celebratory work, it is designed to showcase the dual nature of the cornet: its sparkling technical agility and its rich, vocal lyricism. The music begins in meditative fashion before transitioning into a joyful caprice featuring playful syncopations which are handed around the band. This is followed by a reflective section based on the much-loved worship song I love you Lord by Laurie Klein. The work concludes with a reprise of the original theme, building in momentum and intensity. Through a series of brilliant runs and virtuosic flourishes, the soloist leads the charge toward a majestic and triumphant finale, bringing the work to a ringing, glorious close. The solo was recorded by Richard Marshall on the 2026 CD Gothique Fantasy - The Music of Andrew Wainwright, which was his last solo recording of his 20-year tenure as principal cornet of Black Dyke Band. Unbounded Love is a deeply moving work that bridges the gap between sacred tradition and personal tribute. Drawing inspiration from the beloved 18th-century hymn Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe (I Pray to the Power of Love), this arrangement transforms a timeless spiritual message into a profound musical experience. The foundation of this work lies in the 1822 melody by Dmitri Bortniansky. Originally set to the poetry of Gerhard Tersteegen, this dignified and contemplative theme has served as a cornerstone of ceremonial music for centuries, symbolising solace, reverence, and the liberating power of divine love. Unbounded Love is an intimate memorial dedicated to Hein Voskamp, a cherished soprano player and close friend of the composer. Born from a simple final request - to hear this hymn one last time - the piece became the composer's way of navigating grief and expressing gratitude when words were no longer enough. Commissioned by the Scottish Brass Band Association for the 2007 Scottish Open Championship, Macbeth takes itsa inspiration from the Shakespeare play of the same name. Character portraits (Of the three witches as well as Macbeth himself), abstractions (The lament), and scenes (Macbethas final battle with Macduff) make up the nine sections of the piece.i: WitchesThe prophecies of the three witches are an integral part of the play, and in this opening section, these mysterious characters are represented by three different sections of music that introduces the listener to the musical material of the piece.ii: DaggerMacbethas aIs this a dagger I see before theea speech, where an imaginary dagger leads him to contemplate the pending murder, builds in intensity before the bell tolls at itsa conclusion - a sign from Lady Macbeth that Duncan is now alone.iii: General MacbethA character portrait of Macbeth - a fearless General who has led his armies to defeat foes from all over Europe. Written for the Ipswich & Norwich Co-Op Band, A Suffolk Prelude is based around five traditional tunes from Suffolk:'Nutting Time','Blackberry Fold','Cupid's Garden','A Seaman's Life''The Bold Richard'The piece begins on the percussion and timpani alone leading through a crescendo into the first statement of the fanfare which is derived from a motif from the tune 'Nutting Time'. This leads into a playing of the 'Nutting Time' tune which is then developed as the tune is passed around the band.'Nutting Time' is a jolly lighthearted tune about a 'fair maid' who meets a handsome young farmer called 'Johnny' when out gathering nuts in the wood. After a pause on the tubular bells the slow tune 'Blackberry Fold' is presented as a solo for Flugel Horn, then as a full band version.'Blackberry Fold' is a touching song about a Suffolk squire who gets married well below his station to a beautiful milkmaid, simply because he loves her! They live happily ever after.The next tune to be heard is the juanty 'Cupid's Garden' played firstly as a solo on the Euphonium, and again this is about the subject of love. This song is sung from a sailors prospective and he tells how he met a lovely maiden and has promised to marry her when he returns from duty at sea.The trombones then play the noble tune 'A Seaman's Life'. This tune seems to serve as a warning to young girls about the fickle nature and the total unsuitability of marrying a sailor! 'Oh a seaman's life is a merry merry life, they'll rob young girls of their heart's delight, they will leave them behind for to sail one morn, but they never know when they'll return'. Despite this it is a fine tune!The last tune featured is 'The Bold Richard' which is played by all the bass instruments in the band. This is a song telling how the Royal Navy friggate 'The Bold Richard' went to battle against a French friggate destroying her and taking her crew as prisoners.Suffolk Prelude goes on to feature a slow version of the tune 'A Seaman's Life' played alongside a fast version of the tune 'Cupid's Garden'. The opening fanfare then returns leading into a final coda section.

Les Alignements - Tim Paton
There is a town on the Brittany coast called Carnac. Here you will find a line of prehistoric stones. Three kilometers in length, and at certain points, fifteen abreast, like a line of soldiers. They have been there for so long, that the sea has covered the last few hundred metres. This piece aims to capture the ethereal atmosphere, calmness, and timelessness created by this alignment in this beautiful countryside. This is 'ambient' music, creating several minutes of meditative sound.

Bad Moon Rising - John Fogerty - Len Jenkins
"Bad Moon Rising" is a song written by John Fogerty and performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was the lead single from their album Green River and was released in April 1969, four months before the album. It reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in September 1969 and has been recorded by at least 20 different artists, in styles ranging from folk to reggae to psychedelic rock. The last line of the chorus, "there's a bad moon on the rise", is sometimes misheard as "there's a bathroom on the right" and Fogerty occasionally sings the misheard lyric in concert. The song has become notably popular in Argentina as a football chant and in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a modified version, titled "Brasil, decime que se siente" ("Brazil, Tell Me How It Feels") was sung with Spanish lyrics that taunted Brazil, their traditional rival. It went viral and became very popular (in Argentina).

Dark Arteries was commissioned by Rambert Dance Company and first performed in May 2015 with the Tredegar Town Band sharing the stage with Rambert dancers. Dark Arteries is a personal and at times highly wrought response to the Miners Strike and its aftermath. It is in three movements, the first and last are expansive, with widely contrasting sound worlds, from dark, brooding melodies and the haunting sounds of solo flugel horn to wild syncopations on cornets, suggestive of an imposing, but often bleak mining landscape. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above. Duration: 16.00
