£44.99Sweeney Todd (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Malcolm Arnolds ballet, Sweeney Todd, was first staged in 1959 by The Royal Ballet Company with choreography by John Cranko. The music was later adapted as a concert work and it is from this version that this brass band arrangement, by Phillip Littlemore, is made. The original concert suite lasts some 20 minutes, but this version has been shortened to a more manageable eight minutes. The first performance of this arrangement was given on the 22nd October 2006 at the Malcolm Arnold Festival, Derngate, Northampton by the Rushden Windmill Band conducted by Richard Graves. Suitable for Advanced Youth/3rd Section Bands and above. Duration 8:00

Originally conceived as a trombone duet for the graduation recital of Andy Brooks at Western University, this setting of Matt Merker's popular choral work has been adapted by Noel Brooks as a featured work for trombone trio with brass band. The arrangement follows the emotional arc of the hymn's lyrics, utilising the brass band's colours to reflect the themes of each verse. The journey begins with a sense of vulnerability; the accompaniment is kept sparse and cold to echo the text's plea regarding a failing faith. In the second verse, the music transitions into a more encouraging and uplifted atmosphere, reflecting the assurance of being "precious in His Holy sight." A shift occurs in the third verse, which takes on a darker, more reflective character to support the gravity of the lyrics. This contemplative section builds steadily toward the final chorus, where a sense of confidence returns. The work culminates in a strong musical statement of the hymn's central promise: "He will hold me fast." Originally set to the poetry of Gerhard Tersteegen, this dignified and contemplative theme has served as a cornerstone of ceremonial music for centuries, symbolising solace, reverence, and the liberating power of divine love. Unbounded Love is an intimate memorial dedicated to Hein Voskamp, a cherished soprano player and close friend of the composer. Born from a simple final request - to hear this hymn one last time - the piece became the composer's way of navigating grief and expressing gratitude when words were no longer enough. Few melodies possess the haunting beauty and instant recognizability of The Lonely Shepherd. Originally composed by legendary bandleader James Last for a solo project titled Filmmusik Ohne Filme (Film Music Without Films), the track eventually found its home on the 1977 album Memories of Russia. It was this recording that catapulted pan flutist Gheorghe Zamfir to international superstardom, reaching the Top 25 on the German charts and becoming a permanent fixture in the global musical lexicon. While the original album title suggested "films without movies," the track didn't stay "homeless" for long. Its evocative, melancholic atmosphere has made it a favorite for directors across decades and continents.
