This song was composed by W. C. Handy and published in 1914.The style is typical blues and it has been a standard for jazz-musicians for decades.Many famous musicians and singers has recorded- and performed it. Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, Count Basie and Glenn Miller are among the greatest ones.This arrangement switch between 6/8 and 2/4 time signature bur the tempo is the same throughout the piece. The All Night Vigil is an a-cappella composition that Sergei Rachmaninov composed in January/ February 1915. This march was awarded first prize in the 1930 American Golden Jubilee National Music Competition and was published the same year in the first edition of the American Festival Series. It was subsequently re-printed in the General Series of 1984. Soderstrom's imaginative use of syncopation and chromatic harmony brought a new, American sound to the Salvation Army march. For example, he took the old Salvation Army fight song Hark, hark my soul written and changes its metre from 6/8 to 4/4 while also syncopating it!

In commissioning this work, the wind band of Le Portel (France) wanted to pay tribute to the victims of 8 September 1943, when around 100 Allied planes dropped more than 5,000 bombs on the town of Boulogne and the surrounding area. In fact, this operation was nothing more than a diversion to make the enemy believe that a landing was imminent in the north of France. This music is slow, an adagio commemorating the human sacrifice of this operation. But more broadly, the composer also wanted to express his support for the peoples who, even today, suffer oppression.This set includes an optional choir part that offers the possibility of making an even deeper impression on the listener.Duration: 6.00

The instrumental music of the Yiddish-speaking Jews, especially those of Eastern Europe, is known as klezmer. This terminology was originally used in Jewish cultural life as the name of a musician who played at weddings. At Jewish weddings, which usually last several days, klezmer musicians played not only dance music but also ceremonial music - for example during the wedding ceremony, and also music that was listened to during the wedding feast. Originally, there was no special term for this style of music. It was simply referred to as 'Jewish wedding music'. In the 1970s, the music - which is actually a fusion of different influences - enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and came to be known as klezmer. This music contains not only the sounds of the Balkans, but also influences of oriental and gypsy music too. Jan de Haan used no original klezmer melodies for Klezmeriana, but composed a series of sound-alike in an instrumentation for brass band.Duration: 6.00
