The dictionary definition of Blitz is any sudden, overwhelming attack, particularly from the air. It is shortened form of the German word Blitzkrieg, literally meaning a lightning war.The piece is a test of skill, nerve and stamina, culminating in an aural 'Blitz' of great ferocity.The tempo markings in this piece are intended merely as a guide to performers. The composer is particularly anxious that they should not be considered inviolate.Commissioned with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain for the finals of National Brass Band Championships held in the Royal Albert Hall, London, on the 3rd October, 1981.

Soprano Cornet Solo with Brass BandGaudete is a sacred Christmas carol, which is thought to have been composed in the 16th century, but could easily have existed as a monophonic hymn in the late medieval period. Within the lyrics, there are references to Christ, Virgin Mary, Grace, Ezekiel and Salvation.This arrangement takes the striking tune and re-works it for Soprano Cornet and band, transforming the melody in places, whilst also keeping that familiar tune in its original form. Gaudete was recorded by Steve Stewart & Cory Band in 2016, featuring on its album 'A Festival of Fanfares & Carols'.

This rousing fanfare prelude for Brass Band and optional Organ by Kenneth Downie is based on the monumental hymn Now thank we all our God, which dates from 17th century Germany. The arrangement is featured on the CD Classic Hymns for Orchestra - The Symphonic Music of Kenneth Downie (available here) as a symphonic brass setting. The arranger writes: 'The depth of the words is underpinned by the grandeur of the music, so I have tried to reflect the same regal approach in my setting for brass band.' This arrangement will be an ideal opener or prelude for concerts or church services. Fanfares and Proclamations was originally written in 2015 by Steven Ponsford for the massed bands of the International Staff and Melbourne Staff Bands of The Salvation Army. This piece of music, suitable as a concert opener, makes use of the hymn tunes Miles Lane and Diadem, both of which are associated with the words 'All hail the power of Jesus name'. VIEW SCORE PDF Greg Jasperse's choral setting of the much-loved hymn Abide with me has become very popular with choirs and has here been arranged for brass band by Norwegian composer Espen Haukas. The scoring is for standard brass band although the Repiano Cornet part is set as a second Flugel part. Sweeney Todd Suite - Malcolm Arnold
Malcolm Arnold's ballet, Sweeney Todd, was first staged in 1959 by The Royal Ballet Company with choreography by John Cranko. The music was later adapted as a concert work and it is from this version that this brass band arrangement, by Phillip Littlemore, is made. The original concert suite lasts some 20 minutes, but this version has been shortened to a more manageable eight minutes.The first performance of this arrangement was given on the 22nd October 2006 at the Malcolm Arnold Festival, Derngate, Northampton by the Rushden Windmill Band conducted by Richard Graves.Brass Band Grade 4: Advanced Youth and 3rd Section.Duration 8 minutes.

DURATION: 5 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 4th+. The Gallant Sister was commissioned by the Spennymoor Town Band, and the title is a reference to the local wartime community hero Kate Maxey, who was awarded the Royal Red Cross award for gallantry and distinguished service in the field after being seriously injured in March 1918 whilst working as a Sister in France.

DURATION: 4'30". DIFFICULTY: 2nd+. 'Salisbury Plain' is a march composed for the British Army Band Tidworth as a leaving gift from their Euphonium player LCpl Lucas Lockley. The title is inspired by the vast historic land near to Tidworth's base and notably one of the most iconic iconic landmarks in Great Britain - Stonehenge - which sits upon the plain.

£34.95Mirror of the Heart - Jonathan Bates
DIFFICULTY: 4th+. DURATION: 4'30". Recorded on: Violet Volume 1 (Brass Band Willebroek). 'Mirror of the Heart' was composed for Belgian Cornet soloist Lode Violet for performances and recordings with the Wallberg Band (CH) and Brass Band Willebroek (B). The inspiration for the title of the work is taken from a collection of poems by the same name of late American poet Sara Teasdale (1884 - 1933); the centre of which are 54 deeply personal poems which - as a result - remained unpublished until after Teasdale's death. This work aims to reflect that particularly personal and reflective feel portrayed within the 'heart' of this collection.
