Peterloo is the derisive name given to an incident that happened on16th August 1819 in St Peter's Fields, Manchester, when an orderly crowd of some 80,000 people met to hear a speech on political reform. On the orders of the magistrates they were interrupted by the Yeomanry, who attempted to seize the banners they carried, and to arrest their speaker, Henry Hunt. Cavalry was sent in, and eleven people were killed and four hundred injured in the ensuing panic. This overture attempts to portray these happenings. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above. For anyone who is familiar with this bizarre and wonderful city, this piece needs no explanation. New York is the third movement of East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. These three short 'pictures' were inspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USA's East Coast, an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people. Jacob de Haan wrote this arrangement for concert band, fanfare band and brass band and optional male voice choir. The original carol was written by the Austrian composer and organist Franz Gruber (1787-1863). He was asked to write Silent Night) on the 24th of December 1818 by the priest of the Church of St. Nicolas in Oberndorf, who had himself written the text. It is a romantic carol, with nuances of contemporary Austrian folk and Italian pastorale music.Duration: 4:45

Don't Cry for me Argentina is the best-known song from the 1976 musical Evita. It was sung by Eva Peron when she was addressing the crowds amassed in the square below her balcony. More recently it was a hit for Madonna, who sang it in the 1996 film version of Evita. The famous American singer-songwriter Lionel Richie, who had many hits with his group The Commodores, as well as many international hits as a solo artist, released the single All Night Long at the start of the eighties. It was a huge success and in 1984 Richie sang his hit for an audience of millions during the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Los Angeles. Today, this song is a dance floor classic. 05:00

The Order (founded in 1834) is a strong charitable institution whose founder members recognised their duty to help their fellow men who fell into need "as they walked through the forests of life". It had an early interest in Archery which has continued throughout the ages (It is Performance Partner for the Team GB Archery team at the 2016 Olympics).Foresters Brass Band was formed in 1959 and is now known as Foresters Brass 2000 and performance was originally restricted to Foresters Brass.

This lovely melody was composed by two German musicians who tried to emulate the popularity of the famous Scottish tune Amazing Grace. The piece was an instant success and achieved a substantial degree of popularity after it was featured in the film, Four Weddings and a Funeral. It is usually performed with just pipes and drums, however this arrangement succeeds in joining this traditional classical melody with a steady drum beat, flowing contrapuntal descants and harmonies to create an epic opus. The arrangement is functional with or without Bagpipes.

Aviator is a bright, lively piece, which attempts to show the fast moving and complex world of the stunt pilot who mixes simplicity and style with mad aerobatic prowess. The work shows the take-off and landing, but in the middle, a multiple time signature section mixes cut common and triple time signatures to take the Band on a white-knuckle ride before returning to the main theme for a safe landing.
