Lake of the Moon - Kevin Houben

The travels of the Aztec people as they headed south through North America looking for a new home, acted as the inspiration for Lake of the Moon.The composition contains small fragments of Oriental music and South American rhythms and occasionally, Russian Cossacks seem to raise their heads. The journey from North to South is not without danger, which is represented by threatening sounds within the music.In the Adagio divotothe composer takes us along to the Texcoco Lake, which the Aztecs called the lake of the moon. Bring a little bit of South American history to your concert with Lake of the Moon.

Lakeland Variations - Philip Sparke

Composer Philip Sparke used the region of Seeland, located in the north-west part of Switzerland, with its three lakes (Morat, Neuchatel and Bienne) as the starting point for his Lakeland Variations. The work comprises an introduction and five variations based on motifs contained in the opening bars. The three lakes are represented by the three notes of the opening timpani solo, the intervals of which, a quarter and a second (together with a cornet figure), form the basis of all the following variations.

Laling is a Norwegian folktune from Bo.The arrangementet of the lullaby starts off with a calm atmosphere (like a dream). The dream develops into a more funky section, until it calms down again.Laling was commissioned by Korpsnett Norge, for their project "Arvegods" (Heritage), based on Norwegian folk tunes.
