This is a beautiful arrangement for solo trombone of the wonderful 18th century hymn tune, It is well with my soul, the music for which was written by Philip Bliss to words by Horatio Spafford. The arranger Kenneth Downie writes: 'The tune has a natural nobility which I feel suits the trombone, and the famous words are to be found in almost every hymn book. The final setting is inspired by the majestic hope of the words of the last verse, which were forged in the face of terrible trial and sadness.' £14.95Abide With Me - Trombone and Piano - Kenneth Downie
The very evocative tune to this hymn is called 'Eventide' and was written by William Henry Monk. He was an important figure in 19th century English church music and became organist and choirmaster at a variety of London churches in the course of his lifetime. In 1857, he was appointed the first editor of Hymns, Ancient and Modern, a publication that would eventually sell sixty million copies! It was for this hymnbook that he wrote the tune 'Eventide' to the words, 'Abide with Me' by Henry Francis Lyte. This version, for trombone solo and brass band, was commissioned by Brett Baker.

£14.95Crugybar - Cornet and Piano - Kenneth Downie
The traditional Welsh tune of Crugybar is most commonly associated with words by Howell Elvet Lewis which appear in the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962; 'The light of the morning is breaking, the shadows are passing away'. The Salvation Army Song Book of 1986 lists two further hymns that can be sung to the tune; 'I stand all bewildered with wonder and gaze on the ocean of love' ( W F Crafts) and 'When Jesus from Calvary called me, unfolding its meaning to me' (Will J Brand). This arrangement was made for Martyn Bryant, the long-serving principal cornetist of Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army.
