This fantasy tells the story of Oregon, one of America's north-western states. Traveling by train on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the listener is taken through the fascinating Oregon landscape. Indians, cowboys, golddiggers and hooded wagons will file past on this adventurous journey. The piece has some similarities with a soundtrack of a movie. Various melodies, which could be the main themes of a movie, pass the review.The piece begins in a slow movement, introducing the first theme in minor. Then we hear in the following fast movement the trombones imitate the train, whistling the steam-flute. We hear the characteristic minor theme again, but now in different variants (also in major). The rhythmic structure of "western" stile and rock succeed each other. This is leading to the slow movement, where the signals of horns and trumpets introduce a wonderful vocal melody. After this characteristic melody, the fast movement appears shortly again, the trombones whistling the steam-flute again (now in major). We hear also some musical elements, that plays a part in the following Presto. Barchanges, jazzy chords, interesting rhythmic patterns (with bongo) and an original theme are the characteristics of this Presto. After this, the horns announce the last section of the piece. Interesting is the fact that we hear in this Allegro section a variant of the vocal melody in the slow movement. Also the Presto theme returns shortly, followed by the Allargando, which is a grand characteristic end of a soundtrack. The movie of our travelling fantasy has come to an end.Duration: 9:10

This work was composed in commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the birth English Composer Sir Edward Elgar. The suite is in three movements: 'Introduction', 'Elegy' and 'March', each of which have been inspired by three of Elgar's most celebrated works; Chanson de Matin, Nimrod ('Variation IX' from the Enigma Variations) and Pomp and Circumstance No.1.'Introduction' - Hollybush HillHollybush Hill is the name of one of the peaks of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. The Malverns were a favourite walking area for Elgar and his wife, and their panoramic views inspired much of Elgar's music.'Elegy' - BroadheathBroadheath is the small village at the foot of the Malvern Hills where Elgar was born (and lived at various times throughout his life). Elgar is buried not far from Broadheath at St Wulstan's in Little Malvern. 'March' - Worcester CathedralMany of the Worcestershire ensembles and music festivals played an important role in Elgar's early musical education. He was heavily involved in The Three Choirs Festival and either conducted or played in many of the light orchestras and vocal groups that performed at venues across Worcester. A statue of Elgar overlooks the Cathedral at the end of Worcester High Street.An Elgar Portrait has been used regularly as an own-choice test-piece for Section 4 bands, and was also selected as the set work for the Swiss National Championships in 2007 as well as the Pontins Championships in 2008. The composer has slightly reworked this piece for the Section 4 Final of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 2020 and it's this version that should be performed at the contest. Henry Purcell (1658 1695) is generally considered as one of the greatest English composers. He incorporated Italian and French stylistic elements into his compositions and made uniquely English baroque music. He has a rich production as composer, with works for orchestra, church, scene and vocal. In 1692, three years before his dead, he composed music to The Fairy Queen, who is a masque or semi opera who is a revised version of William Shakespeare's wedding comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream. This arrangement of Symphony is the overture to act number four.

They were groomed for stardom and had started singing as a duo before their fifteenth birthday. They were signed by Decca in 1965 and brilliantly marketed as clean-cut fashion icons. Their first single 'Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches' reached the UK top twenty but their success as twin performers lasted only three years. In 1968 Barry embarked on a solo career while Paul concentrated on writing and producing. Ave Maria - Giulio Caccini
Giulio Caccini (ca. 1550 - 1618), also known as Giulio Romano, was an Italian composer, singer, and lute player and is regarded as the founder of opera. Today, Caccini's music is receiving attention again being performed by world stars such as Andrea Bocelli and Inessa Galante. In this arrangement Ave Maria the solo part can be taken by several instruments or even a vocal soloist. The percussion, of course, is ad libitum.

Giacomo da Lentini was a 13th century Italian poet who was a notary at the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and is said to have invented the sonnet. Lentini's Ballad is based on the famous poem 'Amor e un desio che ven da core' (Love is a desire that comes from the heart). It sounds great as an instrumental work, but there is also an option for a vocal version using the Italian lyrics of the poem, making the arrangement even more special!
