James Cook - Circumnavigator was the last work written for brass band by Gilbert Vinter. It was completed just four months before his death and he was destined never to hear it.
The music describes the treacherous journey by Captain Cook which led to the discovery of Australia and New Zealand. It depicts the turbulence of the ocean as well as the dramatic moment when Cook dies at the hands of natives on Hawaii.
Chosen as the First Section test peice for the 2008 Regional Brass Band Championships.
