Now, in a moving arrangement for the Flugel soloist, 'The Verdant Braes of Skreen' has been arranged by Max Stannard and is the perfect choice for bands and soloists looking to indulge in a little Irish culture. The title has been open to debate for some time, however it is believed that the 'Screen' refers to Ballinascreen in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland and a "Brae" is a steeped bank or a hillside. A lovely addition to any soloists repertoire.

Cornet solo commissioned by Carole Rudaz, a Swiss cornetist, on the occasion of her 40th birthday. Due to its rarity, the four-leaf clover is considered lucky in western culture. But the common three-leaf shamrock, also known as Little Clover, is one of the symbols of Ireland, whose traditional music greatly influenced the general aesthetics of this piece. The work is in three parts: the first, in 6/8, is very lively and virtuosic. After a short cadenza, the second part introduces a theme tinged with melancholy, while the last part is a dance in 2/2 that reprises the theme of the second part to conclude the piece.

The composer and musician Trygve Hoff was born and raised at Rognan in Nordland and gained a lot of inspiration for his texts from the North Norwegian culture. He is a composer and copywriter of many of our most popular songs. "Ei hand a holde i" and "Har en drom" with music by Svein Gundersen and especially his own "North Norwegian Christmas Psalm" are famous songs in Norway. "Lullaby in advent" may not be among his most famous songs, but it's a beautiful and thoughtful melody that will fit well with any Christmas concert. Hoff himself varied with musical styles on this song. This arrangement is written as a jazz-version with swing feel.

Fresena March - Jacob de Haan
Fresena is the original name for Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands, with its own language and culture. In this simple mars, Jacob the Haan used two traditional Friesian folksongs. Together with his composition Fox from the North this mars was a part of the festival suite that Jacob de Haan once wrote by order of the council of Friesland.

Scotland is famed for its rich landscapes and proud heritage. It is also the country that is known for 'housing' the Loch Ness Monster. In celebration of their heritage the Scots annually hold their Highland Games treating audiences to the traditional 'sports' competed by their clan descendents. The Dutch composer Henk Hogestein used the Scottish Highland Games as a source of inspiration for this rugged three-movement work. I wrote this march for Furuset skoles musikkorps and Haugen skolekorps to use on the 17th of May 2007. Those familiar with Norwegian culture know that this day is the national holiday of Norway. What symbolises this day for most kids I think, areplaying and parading in the streets and afterwards eating as much candy, ice cream and cake as possible.The rhythm of the opening motive is based on the rhythm of the title, thus the march is supposed to illustrate a bunch of kids shoutingout: "Candy and Ice Cream and Cake!" There should be no doubt what they want after finishing parading in the streets.

Hakon Berge (born 22 April 1954 in Stavanger) is a Norwegian composer, conductor, arranger and music administrator, resident in Oslo. He studied at the Rogaland Conservatoire and at the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Berge has composed music for theatrical productions in venues such as the Rogaland Theatre, The National Theater in Bergen and the National Theatre in Oslo. He is also experienced in television production and was responsible for televised opera Gagarin - A Space Travel Opera(1991). He has composed a considerable number of commissions, including the music for the opening of the Alexandria Library, music for the opening of the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, and the testpiece Brass Blot (for the European Brass Band Championships in Stavanger in 2008, in which Cory Band from South Wales won the first prize. Berge has also written the music to the documentary musical Byterminalen, also described as a rock opera, which was premiered in May 2008 in connection with the celebration of Stavanger as European City of Culture. Hakon Berge has held a number of offices in the musical life of Norway: he has been chairman both of the Norwegian Society of Composers and of TONO, the Norwegian performing rights organization.

Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontyovich composed this famous Christmas Carol in 1914. The carol is based on a folk chant called Shchedryk.The composer was a supporter of the independence movement in Ukraina, and was assassinated by a Soviet agent in 1921.The carol was made famous after the adaption by Peter J Wilhousky in 1936. Wilhousky worked as an arranger for the NBC symphony orchestra. It is also well known from popular culture, like the film Home Alone (1990), and a version by the vocal group Pentatonix.

The singer- songwriter Trygve Hoff (1938-1987) was born in the small village Rognan in the region Nordland in the north of Norway. Many of his lyrics point towards this part of the country, and he became an important figure for North-Norwegian culture. His North Norwegian Christmas Psalm has become one of the most loved and recorded newer Christmas songs in Norway. The lyrics definitely deals with about the folkish down-to-earth religion that this part of the country is known for.Offering the solo part to the tuba has it's challenges, but the instrumentation should make this a welcome and usable addition to the solo repertoire for that instrument.- John Philip Hannevik -

The essence of what a school band is, has inspired me in this composition. A hub between musicians of all ages and a place where young people can feel belonging. Several of the values in a school band have a positive impact on how musicians grow and mature. They learn about culture and discipline, as well as experiencing unity and mastery. A school band always has a goal, and achieving goals together, without reserves, is priceless. High ambitions and a common will to improve are recognizable in many school bands. In my opinion Skodvin Skulemusikk got these values: unity, affiliation, effort and ambition.The piece portrays the echo that rings in the hall before the applause after a concert. The echo in the hallways during breaks, or in the rehearsal room during rehearsal. The echo, or consequence, of all the work that is done by both musicians and parents. The echo of a unity and belonging that can last a lifetime.
