Root Beer Rag - Billy Joel - Svein H. Giske
Root Beer Rag was written for the 1974 album release Streetlife Serenade by American pianist/vocalist/composer Billy Joel.After the success his own recording, several other pianists have performed it both on record and stage. There's also many arrangements of the song made, some of them featuring soloist(s).This arrangement for Brass Band by Svein H. Giske was written to Askoy Brass Band for their participation in the entertainment-competition Siddis Brass in 2016. It's very virtuosic and challenge almost all sections of the band.

A fun, upbeat number, playable by all levels and offering a wealth of percussion opportunities for the whole band!Alan Fernie composed this work in support of a charitable project, known in 2005 as Brass Band Aid. The organisation called for original compositions to be included in a follow-up CD release - Into Africato help raise funds for projects in Adet, Africa, and to build awareness of theMake Poverty History campaign. As it's title suggests, this piece consists of three distinct elements, all of which maximise the stylish creativity of Kenneth Downie's renowned writing talent.After a rich, warm and hymnal opening 'movement' based upon Kum Ba Yah, the work develops and lifts into a fascinating take on 'The Lord's Prayer'. Bringing the piece to an even more positive, up-tempo close is the final section which references the South African traditional song We Are Marching (Siyahamb' ekukhanyen' kwenknos')Kenneth Downie composed this work in support of a charitable project, known in 2005 as Brass Band Aid. This is a concert march with a difference!The whole of the first section is in minor mode - unusual and intended to depict the trials and tribulations which inspired the original (and now successfully completed) Africa-based projects of Brass Band Aid. The Trio then goes into the major and begins with a Prayer motif that starts with the notes B-B-A. Following a rather turbulent episode (a reminder that there is still much to do), the Prayer theme returns triumphantly, reflecting optimism for the future.Roy Newsome composed this work in support of a charitable project, known in 2005 as Brass Band Aid. Accolade - meaning an award, an honour or a laudatory notice. This fanfare for brass band literally builds from the bottom up as a battery of percussion leads to the lower band's statement of the theme before passing through the middle of the band that builds with a series of interjections. The theme is then restated in the upper band before the battery of percussion returns to end.The fanfare was written for Regent Brass as the title track for their 1990 recording to celebrate both their 5th anniversary and to being crowned 3rd Section Champion Band of Great Britain in 1988 - an accolade indeed!Duration: c.1'00"Diffiiculty: Suitable for all grades

£30.00Carol of the Bells - Mykola Leontovych arr. Phillip Littlemore
This popular Christmas piece was composed by Mykola Leontovych around 1916. It is based on a Ukrainian folk chant known as 'Shchedryk', a New Year's carol. However, it was not until after the composer's death in 1921 that it was first introduced to Western audiences, when the Ukrainian National Choir included it on their tour of Europe and the Americas that same year. The film composer John Williams incorporated it into the score for the 1990 film Home Alone and he is credited for bringing it to a wider audience still, although it had been released on Christmas albums by a number of popular artists before that.This transcription for brass band has been adapted from the version created by Robert Prizeman, who arranged it for Libera, the world famous boys choir that he founded. Their unique, enchanting and, some say, heavenly sound delights audiences throughout the world through extensive concerts, recording and TV broadcasts. This brass band transcription introduces this skilled arrangement to a new genre and a whole new audience as well. The beautiful and popular duet "Christmas is Here", written by Billy Butt and Solve Rydell is now available in a beautiful, symphonic arrangement for brass band. Many people know the song from a recording made by Tommy Korberg and Sissel Kyrkjebo in 1989. This version ended up on the Swedish charts for four weeks over the Christmas-New Year 1989-1990 and has been very popular at Christmas concerts since. The lyrics of the song describe Christmas in the Nordic countries.

Over a period of four decades Jimmy Webb (b. 1946) has written hits for a number of singers including Glen Campbell, Art Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt. His songs are often epic in character and include By the Time I Get to Phoenix; Up, Up and Away; Didn't We; Wichita Lineman and Galveston. MacArthur Park (1968) was unlike anything that had gone before it. Running at over 7 minutes, it is 2 or 3 times the length of most pop songs and has an extended orchestral interlude. Richard Harris' seminal recording topped the music charts in Europe, while peaking at number two on the U.S. charts. Philip Sparke has made this excellentarrangement for brass band, which is sure to become a regular feature on your concert programme.

I Believe is a beautiful ballad composed by Eric Levisalles.This arrangement is written for Flugelhorn and Euphonium as soloists with Brass band. You might very well listen to the recording by Andrea Bocelli and Cecilia Bartoli to get an impression of mood and character.This arrangement was done at the end of the corona pandemic and performed for the first time on February 12th 2022, the same day as Norway re-opened after nearly two years of corona-restrictions.

£30.00Merry-Go-Round - Tim Paton
I heard a recording of a fairground organ playing a fabulous concert waltz from the early 20th century. It struck me that this music was in the same league as another popular concert waltz, "Nights of Gladness". I aurally transcribed it, and set about creating an exciting piece for brass band, aiming to capture the 'fun of the fair'. The piece needs a good principal cornet, and an efficient glock player would not go amiss!
