"Hot Gospel" is my attempt to capture this charismatic experience in a medley of well known sacred music. Each of the five songs chosen follows a similar pattern - a verse for full band followed by a solo, and all solos are intended to sound like improvisation.I've included Optional Cuts which would reduce the play length from c. 9 minutes, down to approximately 4.5 mintues, should your concert programming not allow for the full version. The optional cuts simply side-step the solo section of each song.However you wish to perform Hot Gospel, it will definitely bring variety to programme choice.Also available for wind/concert band.

Descriptiongeminiis a virtuosicsolo for unaccompanied cornet, inspired by the constellation of the same name and one of a small sequence of works inspired by the composer's love of astronomy.Gemini is a constellation visible in the night sky overhead in January and February, between Taurus, Cancer and Auriga. Gemini is latin for "twins", as the constellation's two brightest stars represent the mythological twins Castor and Pollux. Bizarrely, despite being twins, Castor and Pollux had two different fathers and hence two different fates and personalities. This work is dedicated to the composer's friend Lizzy Tonge. In The Pines - Traditional - Max Stannard
Whilst the song may not be familiar with some, this traditional American folk song is believed to date back to the 1870's. With various other titles including 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?' and 'Black Girl', this work has been recorded by numerous artists over the years and was in 1993, introduced to a new generation when it was performed by the US band, Nirvana. Max Stannard's haunting setting brings your audience in with the haunting melody before shifting gears into a great jazz-waltz section. Featuring several soloists, this is a great entertainment items and a good showcase for concerts and contests.

Recently brought back into the limelight by its use in the Lloyds Bank TV advert, this song was originally released by the British band Tears For Fears, but it was not until it was covered by Gary Jules for the soundtrack of Donnie Darko that it became a number one hit. The re-scoring of the original gave the music a much darker feel and its melody became haunting with a slower tempo. Now finally available for band, this arrangement allows bands the chance to show off their soft, lyrical playing before a heavier ending sets in. The work is a great choice for any concert programme if you're after something different, yet popular at the same time this is a must have for any occasion.
