Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare - Richard Strauss

Richard Strauss (1864—1949) composed his Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare (Wiener Philharmoniker Fanfare) in 1924 for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Scored for 8 horns, 6 trumpets, 6 trombones, 2 tubas and 2 timpani, the fanfare opened the orchestra’s inaugural benefit ball to raise money for the musicians' pension fund. It is still performed each year. This arrangement for full brass band and timpani would work well with the cornets and trombones stood around the back of the band in a semi-circle formation, with the flugel, tenor horns, baritone(s), euphoniums and basses sat ’inside’ (although conductors should beware of any balance issues presented by this setup!)Also available to purchase in print from(external webpage, opens in new window)
