A Small Christmas Suite - Jonathan Mead

This fresh new Christmas Suite is an upbeat 'festive suite' from the pen of Welsh Composer, Jonathan Mead. It features three well known carols that have been given an overhaul concerts this year. The three movements can be played as one continuous suite, or separated and performed individually if time doesn't permit for the full suite to be performed. The first Movement features a 'jazzed up' version of O Come All Ye Faithful. Movement 2 allows the bands soloists to shine if a stunningly reflective setting of See Amid the Winter's Snow. The final movement sees Silent Night in a way you've never heard before and has all the 'razzmatazz', and big finish that your concert needs. A must for your band and audiences this Christmas Season.

Christmas Day (Brass Band) Gustav Holst arr. Philip Rayment

Well-known English composer, Gustav Holst (1874-1934) wrote this choral fantasy in 1910, about five years before his renowned orchestral suite, The Planets. The piece was originally composed for SATB choir and orchestra and dedicated to the students of Morley College, where Holst taught music. In the years since, it has been arranged for various combinations of voice and/or instruments. This arrangement is in the original key and could be adapted for use with choir and/or organ. Christmas Day features three carols in their entirety: Good Christian Men, Rejoice; God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen and Come, Ye Lofty, Come, Ye Lowly (an old Breton melody). There are also references to The First Nowell. Although well-received initially, this work (like many of Holst's) was neglected for many years and has not been widely recorded. It is hoped that it will be useful for brass bands during the festive season, particularly in a large acoustic. Six Scottish Folk Songs - James McFadyen

This compendium of six popular Scottish folk songs starts with a brief hearing of My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and continues with the well-known Annie Laurie. Other Scottish tunes include the official Scottish National Anthem (Scotland the Brave), Loch Lomond, Ye Banks Ye Braes and Auld Lang Syne.Ideally suited to bands of around 3rd section in standard, but bands that fall below this standard may find this an ideal piece to work on, particularly in cases where conductors want to train the band to read and play more complex rhythms.

    Tidings! - James McFadyen

Tidings! is a new arrangement of the popular God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen. Modern and slick in its approach but recognisable in form, the brass band sound is funky and powerful.Dating back to the 16th century, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is a tarditional English Christmas carol. It is sometimes known as Tidings of Comfort and Joy. The earliest printed edition is from 1760. Charles Dickens makes reference to this carol in his 1843 novel 'A Christmas Carol.'Various versions have been released including ones by Garth Brooks, the cast of Glee and Pentatonix.

God Rest Ye Merry, Cha-Cha Men - 16th Century English Traditional - John Barber

God Rest Ye Merry, Cha-Cha Men is a reworking of the traditional English Christmas carol God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen. Veering away from the original with the help of a driving Cha-Cha beat, a piano Montuno line in the baritones and featuring an opportunity for Conga players to revel in the moment, God Rest Ye Merry, Cha-Cha Men is a lively and fun take on this Christmas classic.

    God rest ye merry Gentlemen

'God rest ye merry, Gentlemen' is an ancient English carol. It was first published in 1833, but it can be traced as far back as the 15th century, which makes it one of the oldest carols known. 'God rest ye merry' is a Middle English salutation. In this manner, people wished one another greatness and might. In modern English, the first line of this carol would read 'May God keep you mighty, gentlemen'. Andrew R. Mackereth has not kept to the original words in his up-tempo arrangement of the carol. It is still clearly recognizable, but the arranger has taken a good many liberties. Sometimes a particular note is held longer, at times motifs follow oneanother in various parts. If you listen carefully, you may even be able to detect a motif from another well-known song.

The Kingdom of God - Jerry B. Bensman

A brilliant concert-march in the best British martial tradition. Both the title and composition are based on the well-known hymn 'Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God'.
