Scored for Brass Quintet, it was performed by former members of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble.My friendship with Philip Jones stretched back to my student days, when my Quintet for Brass was performed during my final year at the Royal Academy of Music. Philip was present at that premiere in 1967, and soon after that his ensemble performed and broadcast the Quintet on a UK Tour, including a performance in the finals of the BBC Young Composer's Competition. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for promoting a work by a then unknown young composer.I use a brief quote from the opening of my 1967 Brass Quintet in this work, which is generally rather sombre in character, except for the sudden change of mood and tempo in the short final section, when the clouds suddenly lift and the sun shines through.- Edward GregsonDuration: 5.00

Fanfare of a Nation (2012) was commissioned by the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble as a short fanfare for ten brass players plus percussion, and was performed in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of their visit to Wales to mark the Diamond Jubilee, under its original title The Royal Diamond Jubilee Fanfare. The fanfare has since been performed throughout the UK with both its original instrumentation, and also the extended full brass band version. This short work mesmerizes, dazzles and utilizes the fanfare effects so often associated with the brass family.Instrumentation - 4 x Trumpets, 1 x Horn in F, 3 x Tenor Trombones, 1 x Bass Trombone, 1 x Tuba, 1 x PercussionNote - Trumpet 1 is available in both E-flat & B-flat, Horn in F is available in E-flat, Tenor Trombone and Tuba parts available in both treble or bass clef.

Based on a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king, the play has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, with the title role coveted by many of the world's most accomplished actors. Its first known performance was in 1607, George Bernard Shaw wrote, "No man will ever write a better tragedy than Lear". Originally orchestrated for 2 flutes, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, timpani, side drum, 2 harps, and strings, Debussy wrote five minutes of incidental music for a production of King Lear, produced at the Theatre Mogador Paris in 1904. Duration: 1.30. Suitable for 4th Section Bands and above.

Dynamite (Brass Quartet)
Dynamite! (2012) is a work in four parts for trumpets or cornets, premiered by sixty players at the 2012 Black Dyke Brass Festival with Richard Marshall.The work is in one continuous movement, comprising many styles as the work continues. Opening and closing with striking rhythmic material, the music explodes with excitement and character, influenced by its title Dynamite! With lyrical passages and a fugue in the central sections, the work is engaging whilst easy-listening for any audience.
