Philip Sparke wrote Heritage as a grand concert march in the tradition of Elgar and Walton. After a brief introduction, the march's long main theme is presented: first in subdued tones, then taken up by the full band, adding a tenor counter melody. The following bridge passage leads to a change of key and the traditional trio section. Just based on its title, this piece has to be celebratory and up-beat, which it is! It opens with a stately fanfare, first played on the low brass before the entire band joins in. This gives way to a contrasting lyrical theme which develops until it joins up with the fanfare to complete the opening section. A lively and heavily syncopated vivo follows, cast as a traditional march, complete with a 'bass strain' and trio. After the original march theme returns, a climax leads back to a reprise of the majestic opening, which brings the piece to an appropriately triumphant close.Duration: 7:30

Hickory Mice - Len Jenkins - Len Jenkins
Based on the well-known tune of 'Hickory Dickory Dock', which as kids we all knew, the mice get up to their usual adventures. Frenetic activity is followed by staggering exhaustion, or perhaps they got at the booze...Then the party really gets going, with references to various dance themes (and the behaviour of the visually impaired trio), even taking in the baroque and a stately minuet. Exhausted!

£42.00Silent Night. Franz Gruber arranged for brass band by Andrew Duncan
Silent Night is an Austrian Christmas Carol written by Franz Gruber, (1787-1863). Franz Gruber was an primary school teacher, organist and composer who lived in the village of Arndorf in Austria. Silent Night (Stille Nacht) has become one of the best loved Christmas Carols ever written. This arrangement for brass band imagines Christmas morning in a small Austrian village, such as Arndorf, with the sound of the local church bells ringing out along with the sound of a choir singing Silent Night accompanied by the local band.. The arrangement features the tubular bells playing a simple descending scale, which is also played by muted cornets (2nd and 3rd cornets). After 2 verses of the hymn the coda features a short trombone trio with a jazzy feel which leads into a final scale from the tubular bells and cornets bringing the piece to a peaceful close. £115.60In Charge - Concert March - Jerker Johansson
In Charge was commissioned by the Home Guard Band of Eksjo to honour Thomas Samuelsson, whose efforts with the orchestra have been of great significance. He was a driving person within Swedish military music and furthermore project manager for Eksjo International Tattoo. Thomas worked at Eksjo Energy and the title of this work hints both to his occupation and his administrative leadership in the band. The first part of this concert march concentrates a lot on syncopation, while the second part is more robust with a traditional and lyrical trio part. In Charge was premiered by the Home Guard Band of Eksjo on the 22th of December 2018, conducted by Maria Sandberg.

From the first bars the stately character of this solemn, yet celebratory, march is clearly heard. The introduction of the main theme takes place in the medium register, immediately resulting in a noble tone. A lyrical trio melody provides contrast, but the march closes in a festive and imposing mood. A march worthy of any concert program.

Jubiloso was commissioned by Utsunomiya Brass Society, a talented and versatile group of brass players whom Philip Sparke has conducted on many occasions. When they asked him to compose a 'signature' march to celebrate their 30th anniversary, they asked for a bright and breezy march which they could use to open concerts. Jubiloso is in the same 'Broadway' style as Sparke's Slipstream and The Bandwagon with heavily syncopated melodies and the conventional cantabile trio section but also contains sudden bars with unusual time signatures which trip up the march rhythm.Duration: 4:00
