With Sweet Jubilation - James Curnow
Explore different settings of the Medieval Latin carol "In Dulci Jubilo" via this solid arrangement by James Curnow. Opening with an exquisite "Brass Choir" section a la Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) and progressing through a "Woodwind Choir" section in the later J.S.Bach style, WITH SWEET JUBILATION is wonderful "style study" material. The grace of the early masters and the clearly focused unifying concept of the arrangement by James Curnow combine to make this addition to the Curnow Music Press "Splendor of Christmas Series" a wonderful holiday experience for the young band.

Bramwell Tovey has developed and gathered the original material and presented it for Euphonium Soloist, Derick Kane, to feature with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain in 2015. It employs the old song of the same title and provides a good challenge for the soloist.

Glitter and glamour, good-looking people, a lot of Bling Bling and fast cars images like these will cross our minds when we think of the movie world. However, reality proves to be different : as a rule, a tremendous amount of work will have been done on the set before a film is ready to be shown on the big screen. A visit to an actual movie set inspired John Emerson Blackstone to write a composition bearing the same name. He had both seen a number of characteristic attributes and heard the typical phrases used in film making, and he incorporated them into 'On the Movie Set' . In the first part, 'The Clapboard', a 'director's assistant' is supposed to shout "Quieton the set'" and "Action!", as is done before a real scene is shot. Subsequently, in order to create the right atmosphere, the clacking of a 'Clapboard' should be heard. During a romantic scene we should be transported to another world by means of sweet sounds in the background, so romantic music is of course heard in the next part, 'Love Scene'. At the end of a long working day 'It's a wrap' is called on the set to inform everyone that the filming on that day is completed. Now there is only one more thing left to dream of : an Oscar..... Perf. Note: The use of the right props will add to the performance and appreciation of 'On the Movie Set'. A red carpet and a glamorous reception should give your audience the feeling they are attending a real 'opening night'!

£48.13Boreas: The North Wind (Brass Band) Derek Jenkins
Boreas was an ancient Greek deity personifying the north wind. He was a winged god of ruthless disposition, which was rivaled only by the harsh wintry winds at his command. Boreas fell in love with Orithyia, the King's daughter. Contrary to his genuine nature, he attempted to woo her with sweet words of devotion. His efforts were in vain, and Orithyia failed to yield to his advances. With this rejection, Boreas's temper flared and he, once again, was overcome by his icy and merciless nature. Like Boreas, this work begins with slow, lyrical lines that quickly fade into an unrelenting fury of anger. Moments reminiscent of Boreas's words of affection appear, but they are quickly washed away as the piece escalates. This arrangement was written for Joseph Parisi and the Fountain City Brass Band as a small token of thanks. The original version for wind ensemble was commissioned by and written for Timothy Shade and the Bethel College Wind Ensemble. The New Covenant - James Curnow
Throughout The New Covenant the composer seeks to portray through programmatic music the sensitivity, love and understanding of a compassionate Christ and the strength and wisdom of the Son of God who gave Himself to become the new covenant between God and man. This descriptive work creates a word painting by use of fragments from John Newton's beautiful hymn 'How Sweet The Name of Jesus'. An ideal work for any concert but especially for those taking place in Churches or Cathedrals.
