Among the solos contained in this album are some of the 'heart songs' of The Salvation Army, some traditional melodies as well as four larger works. There are solos to challenge the younger player as well as some to test the most advanced soloist.These solos, many of which were only available with brass and accompaniment, have now been arranged with pianoforte accompaniment and come complete with an 'accompaniment CD'. Richard Phillips is the pianist. There is music suitable for all occasions, ranging from the Sunday morning worship meeting to the concert platform. Most importantly, the album contains solos that will appeal to the listener as well as the performer. No. 1215 March - Merthyr Tydfil No.34 (Paul Sharman)This march was written at the request of Bandmaster Howard Roberts to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Merthyr Tydfil Corps, corps number 34 in The Salvation Army. The tunes used have obvious Welsh connections wit 'Cwm Rhonnda' and 'Aberystwyth' being featured. 'Aberystwyth' was written by Joseph Parry who lived in Merthyr Tydfil for a while.No. 1216 Mambo - Mighty God (Steven Ponsford)Based on words from Isaiah 9, 'Mighty God' is a song of worship and assurance by Chris Bowater and helen and Mark Johnson. This arrangement will afford bands the opportunity to engage the audience into a lively segment of praise.No. 1217 Song Setting - Jesus, I come (Michael Davis)A setting of George C Stebbins' beautiful melody 'Out of my bondage'.No. 1218 O rock, all ye faithful (William Gordon)The Christmas carol 'O come, all ye faithful' is arranged here in a 'rock' style and includes references to other well known Christmas carols.

£34.95Chalk Farm No. 2 (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
In 1909, The Salvation Army published a march called 'Chalk Farm'. 'Chalk Farm No. 2' was written to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Bandmaster Punchard, Bandmaster to Chalk Farm band for 50 years. The tune 'March on, we shall win the day' is common to both marches. The later march is symphonic rather than processional, including as it does irregular bars of 5 and 7 beats.

Bethel Street (Bra) - Andi Cook
A lovely street march which the composer wrote for his old band - Yorkshire Co-op band. Bethel street is the street in Brighouse where the annual march contest takes place and is also where William Booth (founder of the salvation army) was minister for two years.

As a young man, Andrew Pearce had fond memories of playing Cornet in the local Youth Brass Band, where he first experienced the power and beauty of brass music. After completing 'Maestro' concertino for Philip Cobb, he decided to write a more gentle and lyrical piece for him, which paid homage to his musical roots in the Salvation Army. 'Interlude' is ideal for a proficient solo cornet player in any brass band: tuneful, reflective and elegiac with lots of expression.
