This ensemble frequently visited Switzerland because Philip Jones' wife, Ursula Strebi is from Lucerne. In this setting the baritone creates an eerie atmosphere during the introduction and ending to the work.

Old Hundredth - Louis Bourgeois - Philip Sparke

The tune Old Hundredth is one of the best-known melodies in all Christian musical traditions and first appeared in the 1551 psalter "Pseaumes Octante Trois de David", where it is used as a setting for a version of Psalm 134; it is usually attributed to the French composer Louis Bourgeois (c.1510 - c.1560). The melody was then used in 1561 by the Scots clergyman, William Kethe in Sternhold and Hopkins' Psalter for his paraphrase of Psalm 100 - All People that on Earth do Dwell, which is still the most familiar hymn sung to this noble tune. When Tate and Brady's "New Version of the Psalms" was published in 1696, the melody became know as the 'old' version - hence its current title. This arrangement presents three contrasting verses and is effective as a concert piece as well as an instrumental interlude as part of a church service or wedding.

The Big Country - Jerome Moross - Andi Cook

The opening of the main theme from 'The Big Country' is as iconic as any western theme ever written. The flourish from the strings (or cornets in our case!) allow your band to show off with detailed playing that is sure to grab your audience's attention from the word go. The film's composer, Jerome Moross was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the soundtrack, but lost to 'The Old Man and the Sea' scored by Dimitri Tiomkin. This arrangement by Andi Cook faithfully recreates the excitement from the main theme that is now known throughout the world. This title has never before been publicly available to brass bands until now and is sure to be a hit with bands and audiences.

The Wondrous Cross - Dean Jones

The Wondrous Cross was written as the result of a request from Tim Parker, Bandmaster of the Staines Band of The Salvation Army for something new and inspiring for Easter and based on the tunes of 'Rockingham' and 'O Waley, Waley'. The composer has fused the old and the new tunes firstly with a chorale setting and then in a 'bolero' style. This has created a moving work that will engage the listener into the heart of the Easter story.
