Tim Paton composed this work originally for piano, and later went on to score it into this effective version for brass band.Tim comments:What happened in 1989? I wrote this piece for piano, and later scored it for brass band! The piece begins in a thoughtful mood, then very soon moves into a bluesy style. After an up-tempo dance section, and a brief re-cap of the beginning, it finishes with a majestic coda, which really shows off that special sound that only a brass band can make. Although it is called 1989, it can be any memorable year that the listener wishes it to be.

I first heard of the song National Express, which was in the British Top Ten in 1998, when my son Jon mentioned it last year. It was written and sung by Neil Hannon, with his group "The Divine Comedy". Jon said that it would sound good played by a brass band. Tim Benson, solo trombone with Stannington Brass Band, also mentioned it on the internet forum, themouthpiece.com I spoke with Tim, and agreed to do a brass band arrangement with a special feature for solo trombone. In this arrangement, the solo trombone adds extra colour to a band arrangement which is a mixture of big band and country style. The trombone part is well within the capabilities of a good player. There is a comic element to this song, and the cornets and flugel contain an eight bar spoken part, which, if included, would enhance it's entertainment value.Tim Benson took the music to rehearsal at Stannington Brass Band and it instantly became a hit with the band who left whistling the melody. The piece not only retains the fun of the original, but it cleverly uses the band, and a bit of additional vocals from the cornet section. A Holly Jolly Christmas - Johnny Marks - Len Jenkins
"A Holly Jolly Christmas" is a Christmas song written in 1962 by Johnny Marks. He was also responsible for Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree amongst his other compositions. The most well-known vocal editions are those by Burl Ives who recorded it in 1964 for a Christmas special, and then re-recorded in 1965 for his holiday album, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. This latter version of the song has a somewhat slower arrangement than the previous version and featured an acoustic guitar solo introduction; it is this version that has since become the more commonly heard rendition on radio. More recently, it has been recorded by Michael Buble.

Trumpet Tune and Air - Clarke, Purcell - Len Jenkins
Wobbleco Music is pleased to offer a new arrangement of the famous 'Trumpet Tune in D' for full brass band featuring a soprano cornet solo. The tune is often attributed to Henry Purcell, but in fact was the result of a joint musical production by Jeremiah Clarke and Daniel Purcell (Henry Purcell's younger brother), hence the confusion. For bands that do not have a soprano cornet player, we also include an alternative solo part written for Bb cornet. To complement this, we also include a soprano cornet part in Eb, for use when the band has a soprano player but who is not the featured soloist. Recognising its popularity for weddings and special occasions, where a full band may be impractical for space or availability reasons, we have also produced a quintet edition, which is available as a separate publication from Wobbleco Music.
