Here we have one of the most famous 'Arie antiche' (ancient aria's) from the 18th century, written in the style of Handel. For many years it has been attributed to Giuseppe Giordani, opera and sacred music composer of the Neapolitan school. However, recent investigations clearly established that this song had actually been composed by his son Tommaso (1733-1806). This delicate wind band arrangement by Willy Hautvast can also be performed with a vocal soloist or a mixed choir.

Root Beer Rag was written for the 1974 album release Streetlife Serenade by American pianist/vocalist/composer Billy Joel.After the success his own recording, several other pianists have performed it both on record and stage. There's also many arrangements of the song made, some of them featuring soloist(s).This arrangement for Brass Band by Svein H. Giske was written to Askoy Brass Band for their participation in the entertainment-competition Siddis Brass in 2016. It's very virtuosic and challenge almost all sections of the band.

The middle section features a drum solo as well as a tutti-passage where the intention is to make it sound like a big band playing this kind of music.The title is a pun with one of the Islands, Lindholmen in the northern part of the Gothenburg archipelago. Commissioned by Margaret Milligan for Ian, her husband who is the musical director of Callendar Brass, based in Callendar near Stirling in Scotland. With Celtic drums and the use of the Scottish traditional song 'An Eriskay Love Lilt' the piece works very well as a lively concert/2nd half opener or even as a piece to liven up the middle of a concert programme. CALIFORNIA (Brass Band Set) - Emil Soderstrom
In retirement, Emil Soderstrom moved to California and honoured his new home with this light-hearted but demanding march. The composer has said that the motif given to the upper cornets in the second strain stands for 'Ca-li-for-nia'! His love of startling chromatic passages is evident in the 'break up' strain of the trio section which is marked by a sudden key change and a fragment of the song Sunshine in my soul today, a reference to the Californian weather.

LIFESTREAM (Brass Band Set) - Ralph Pearce
This march is modelled on the well-known American quick march called Midwest by J.J. Richards. The melody of the second subject is by the Danish hymn-writer, Sophie Hedvig Dedakam and is associated with words by Major Clara Vint who helped to establish En Evant, the French War Cry. The title of the march is derived from the text of the song.

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote his fourth symphony in 1877 and 1878. It was first performed in the latter year conducted by Nikolai Rubenstein. Despite initial critical reaction, the symphony has become a staple of the orchestral repertoire and is one of the most frequently performed late 19th century symphonies. In the exciting finale, Tchaikovsky incorporates a famous Russian folk song, 'In the field stood a birch tree' as one of its themes.
