£44.95Bravura (A Fantasy on British Folk Songs) (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band)
Bravura is a companion piece to the composer's earlier euphonium display piece Brillante, utilising the same traditional 19th century "fantasy variation" structure, familiar to generations of brass soloists. Folk songs from the four corners of Great Britain are featured; Oranges and Lemons, (England), The Blue Bells of Scotland, The Minstrel Boy (Ireland) and the famous Welsh anthem Men of Harlech.The solo is a conflation of the original version, written for the 2002 Royal Albert Hall Gala Concert, which followed the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. On that occasion the combined talents of virtuosi David Childs, Derick Kane, Steven Mead and David Thornton (with guests Robert and Nicholas Childs) were on display, each personalising the cadenza section towards the end. This version incorporates a published cadenza, though soloists should feel free to improvise their own material at this point.

Finale from In League with Extraordinary GentlemenThe Great Race, for solo euphonium and band, follows Phileas Fogg on the last stage of his epic journey "Around the World in Eighty Days" (from the novel by Jules Verne). The moto perpetuo nature of the music gives full rein to the soloist's technical virtuosity. As the work draws to a conclusion, the frantic scramble by Fogg to meet his deadline at the Reform Club in Pall Mall, London, is echoed by the soloist's increasingly demanding ascending figuration, set against the background of Big Ben clock chimes.

£40.00Two Aquarelles (Euphonium Feature with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
In the late spring of 1917, the Bradford born composer, Frederick Delius (1856 - 1934) composed two short part-songs at his home in Grez-sur-Loing. The river ran along the bottom of his garden and he called the two miniatures To be sung of a summer night on the water. The First World War was at its height, but one would never guess that from the languid and serene quality of these richly textured nocturnes. The songs were first heard in London on 28 June, sung by the Oriana Madrigal Society, conducted by Charles Kennedy Scott. In 1932 Delius's amanuensis, Eric Fenby, arranged them for string orchestra as Two Aquarelles. While I have taken Fenby's title, my arrangement is a note-for-note transcription of the choral original. It was prepared in early in 1993 for Besses o' th' Barn Band, of which I was Musical Director at the time. In the second song, the prominent tenor solo has been given to the solo euphonium, who should stand apart from the band in performance.- Paul HindmarshDuration: 5.00

Concerto for EuphoniumIn League with Extraordinary Gentlemen combines two of composer Peter Graham's life interests - composition and 19th century popular fiction. Each of the concerto's three movements takes its musical inspiration from extraordinary characters who have transcended the original genre and have subsequently found mass audiences through film, television and comic book adaptations.The first movement follows a traditional sonata form outline with one slight modification. The order of themes in the recapitulation is reversed, mirroring a plot climax in the H.G. Wells novella The Time Machine (where the protagonist, known only as The Time Traveller, puts his machine into reverse bringing the story back full circle).The Adventure of the Final Problem is the title of a short story published in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. This is an account of the great detective's final struggle with his long-time adversary Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland. The music takes the form of a slowed down lndler (a Swiss/Austrian folk dance) and various acoustic and electronic echo effects call to mind the alpine landscape. Meditation is the central theme from The Triumph of Time, a work commissioned for The Black Dyke Band by Music Director Nicholas Childs. The original brief was for a piece which would showcase the talents of the band's many fine soloists, among them Zoe Hancock on Flugel horn and Baritone soloist Katrina Marzella. This extract brings both instruments together in an extended stand-alone arrangement.Although scored for Flugel and Baritone, a number of options can be explored at the discretion of the conductor (eg. Flugel/Cornet and Euphonium/Trombone; two Bb Cornets etc. in which case cued lines in the Solo Horn and Soprano cornet parts may be played).Duration: 05:00

Inspired by the infamous investigation into Jack the Ripper, Abberline follows Detective Inspector Frederick Abberline through the mist-shrouded streets of Victorian London in his desperate pursuit of a killer who remains forever just out of reach. Scored for brass band and solo euphonium, the piece blends atmospheric textures, shifting musical identities, and virtuosic demands to capture a narrative that is as haunting as it is unresolved. The piece opens in a world of shadows - the foggy alleys of Whitechapel - where tension simmers beneath the surface. The euphonium enters cautiously, as if stalking unseen figures, echoing the danger and uncertainty that cloaked the city in fear. This eerie calm is broken suddenly: the Ripper strikes. The moment is brief but brutal, leaving only silence and horror in its wake. From here, the music shifts into an uneasy, angular waltz: the figure of Abberline takes center stage, portrayed by the soloist as he investigates the aftermath. The waltz is melodically off-kilter and harmonically unstable, capturing both the grotesque nature of the crime and the detective's mental burden. The scene then returns to the streets - but this time, the musical material is more intricate, fragmented, and tense. The threat has deepened, and again the silence is shattered by violence. A second, slightly altered waltz follows, further reflecting Abberline's obsessive descent into the case. In the final section, the chase begins in earnest. Themes from earlier return in quick succession, intensified and overlapping as time runs out. The ancient Dies Irae chant is woven into the texture, evoking fate and judgment. In a final, erratic surge, the euphonium and band race toward an ending that is breathless and unresolved - a reflection of history's unanswered questions and the ghost that always stayed one step ahead.
