Ave Maria (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Bruckner, Anton - Downie, Kenneth

The great 19th century Austrian composer, Anton Bruckner is most famous for his nine published symphonies and his sacred music (for organ and for voices). This motet, for unaccompanied voices, was written for Linz Cathedral where Bruckner became organist in 1855. Although this arrangement for brass band is far removed from the original, it is felt that the beauty of the music will come over in a new way.

Largo from Winter (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) stands, with Handel and J.S. Bach, as one of the titanic figures of late Baroque composition. Not only was he lauded as a composer of vocal and instrumental works both sacred and secular, he was without doubt, the most prolific composer of his age. In addition to hundreds of vocal works, including forty-nine operas, he composed five hundred concertos. The Four Seasons are probably the best known of his concerti with the second movement, Largo, portraying time spent by a roaring fire listening to the rain pounding against the window. This new arrangement for brass band retains all the warmth of the original. 03:45

Meditation on St. Clement (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Chaulk, David

Inevitably, comparisons will be made with Philip Wilby's setting of the same hymn tune so it's interesting to note that this arrangement was done in 1983 - ten years prior to Wilby's very fine arrangement. It's being published now in response to many requests from bands around the world and will make an excellent addition to the sacred repertoire of brass bands.

Sanctus (From German Mass D.872) (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Schubert, Franz - Downie, Kenneth

Franz Schubert's so-called German Mass, D. 872 is one of his last works of sacred music and was written in 1827. The work was commissioned by Professor J P Neumann of the Polytechnic School of Vienna who provided the texts for the nine short sections. It was Neumann's idea that the work be as musically simple as possible and able to be performed by amateurs. This arrangement of the Sanctus seeks to preserve the simplicity of the original, allowing the sheer beauty of the melodic lines to have prominence.
