DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Championship. The title of this work comes from a line in Martin Luther King Jnr's famous 'I Have a Dream ' speech, portraying the vast expanses of the plains of Georgia and the notable red hue to the surrounding mountains. This piece is very much influenced by the music of American wind band composers Samuel Hazo and Richard Saucedo, both of which are regularly inspired by the scenery of 'the big country'. This piece was composed for Jaren Hornmusikkforening as part of their programme for the 2018 SIDDIS Championships held in Stavanger, Norway. .

DURATION: 2 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 1st+. 2018 marked the centenary of the Red Cossack's declaring independence from the Russian state following the revolutions of 1917. The music combines more contemporary musical elements with that of the melodies, rhythms and modes traditionally used in early soviet music. Cairo Red Shield (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Raikes, Albert Stanley
During World War Two, Salvation Army servicemen serving in Cairo formed a 'Red Shield Club', of which one of the elements was a band. Albert Stanley Raikes (more often known affectionately by his middle name, Stan) was for some time in charge of this band and wrote this march in memory of this wartime combination and the enthusiasts who were, at one time or another, members of it.

The title of this euphonium solo, The Red Novae, is derived from two sources; the description of a stellar explosion thought to be caused by the merger of two stars, and as a form of anagram of the dedicatee's name (Dave Thornton).The work offers the soloist an opportunity to exploit a variety of sound worlds including the use of optional electronics.
