Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting and forests. In western art she is often pictured with deer, lions or bears with a bow in her hand. The tempo of this march is stately and the themes are "concertante" in character making Artemis best suited as a concert march rather than a street march. Technically this march is not too difficult although at times some dexterous fingering is necessary. The trio melody is especially lyrical and offers various sections within the band the possibility to show off their skill in playing the expressive melody. Ray Steadman-Allen sketched this short, festive arrangement in the early 1990s.While labelled by RSA as a Trumpet Solo, a Cornet soloist would also be appropriate. The piece should not prove difficult to prepare except in terms of maintaining balance between the soloist and the band. Some of the harmonies are quite unexpected, even curiously dissonant in the late RSA style. However, such sounds should help the listener hear this traditional hymn in a new and vital manner. The piece would serve well as an Intrada on Easter Sunday, or during any celebratory occasion in Eastertide.

'Is That The Time' was written in 2014 for UK national award winning band 'Youth Brass 2000'. It's a showpiece in a jazzy fusion idiom with a full and central role for the kit drummer and percussionists. The temptation must be resisted to play the piece too quickly and in so doing losing the 16th note syncopations inherent within the rhythmic groove. The challenge is not so much one of getting the notes, although there are a few harmonic surprises along the way, as one of playing as a cohesive rhythmic unit. Duration: 4.30. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above.

Commissioned in 2007 by Superbrass to write a trombone feature for Andy Wood. Mark writes:- "Roger asked for something not too fast with a Spanish flavour - so I created a slow Bossa Nova with just a hint of Bolero vaguely in the tradition of Jobim with undertones of Ravel."
