Kaleidoscope is a set of five variations of on the 'Brugger Lied' (Brugg Song) which is the traditional song of the town of Brugg. The lyrics tell of the geography, people and traditions of this charming and historic town, which is situated in the north of Switzerland, near to the German border, about halfway between Basel and Zurich.Each variation is based on tiny extracts of the theme, the whole piece therefore resembling the effect of a kaleidoscope, which juxtaposes small fragments of colour in a constantly changing pattern.

Sanctuary was commissioned by Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass from New Zealand and was performed as an own choice piece at the 2018 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships. It opens with an expressive cornet solo, hymn-like in mood. A slightly faster central section builds to a change of key and an expansive return of the opening melody, this time scored for full band. After an emotional climax the mood subsides, leading to a quiet close.

The movies from Disney have always included a lot of great music. Once Upon a Dream was written in 1959 to the musical animation movie "Sleeping Beauty", a movie produced by Walt Disney. It is based on Tchaikovsky's ballet with the same name. In the movie, the theme is dedicated to Princess Aurora and Prince Philip. Mary Costa and Bill Shirley performed the beautiful song as a duet in the original version.

As a young man, Andrew Pearce had fond memories of playing Cornet in the local Youth Brass Band, where he first experienced the power and beauty of brass music. After completing 'Maestro' concertino for Philip Cobb, he decided to write a more gentle and lyrical piece for him, which paid homage to his musical roots in the Salvation Army. DURATION: 4'00". DIFFICULTY: 4th+. 'By Water and the Word' was composed for 2020 Brass Band Summer School in memory of it's long-standing course administrator Philip Biggs, who passed away in 2019. Aside from his work with BBSS, Philip was also the renowned administrator for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain where my first opportunities as a writer of brass music were presented. It's a certainty to say that without Philip's work at the head of this organisation, there's zero chance I would be able to do what I do today as a musician, and for that it was a huge honour to write this short work in his memory. Under Maestro Bramwell Tovey, each course would conclude with an encore of The Day Thou Gavest (St. Clements) and one of the most used hymn tunes throughout the week was The Church's One Foundation (Aurelia). Since then, these two tunes have become synonymous with the NYBBGB and in turn Philip's life & work, so I felt it fitting to combine these two wonderful sacred melodies into a new work paying homage to those memories. .

Commissioned by Philip Harper for the Cory Bands 2013 tour to Australia, Dreamtime draws inspiration from Australian Aboriginal mythology. The Dreamtime is a sacred era in which the Aborigines believe ancestral totemic (symbolic) spirits created the world. The work is heavily percussive, including narration and a pseudo-didgeridoo, created with multi-phonics in euphoniums and tubas.
