£100.00Danceries (Set II) (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Hesketh, Kenneth
Danceries Set II, arranged for brass band, was first commission by Keith Allen for the Birmingham Symphonic Winds. This second set of Danceries continues the format, established in the popular Danceries (Set I), of using tunes and dances from Playford's Dancing Master (17th century) to form the basis of an extended dancesuite. In this set, the melodies have become more abstracted and project only a distant echo of their original forms. As before, each movement is self-contained, colourful and direct, with its own distinct mood. The outer movements - Jennie's Bawbee and Peascod's Galliarda - share driving percussion with a military air. Tom Tinker's Toye and Heart's Ease (movements two and three) are both settings of original melodies. All movements are more extended than in the first set, with a freer use and approach to the material; melodies now occur in various keys and are supported by a greater variety of harmonic colouring. The result is a richer, even more exhilarating set of dances. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above. Duration: 15.00

Set To is dedicated to London Brass and arranged for brass band by Christopher Houlding. It was commissioned by the Aldeburgh Foundation and received its first performance on August 24th 1993 at the Maltings, Snape. Originally divided into two movements, a pensive and richly harmonic Blues and an aptly named Bacchanale, sometimes slow but mostly fast and furious. "I remember playing the original brass ensemble version of "Set To" numerous times in the early nineties with London Brass and always wondered if the composer would consider writing something for Brass Band. As Director of The Guildhall Brass Band, a possible performance opportunity arose in 2010 and I successfully approached Mark and gained his permission to scale it up for brass band with added percussion parts. I conducted the premier of this new Brass Band version at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in February 2011 with the composer present and he liked it. Although very contemporary compared to most brass music, I feel that Mark's easily accessible style makes this rhythmically quirky and harmonically 'bluesy' work a really interesting concert piece, suitable for any occasion" - Chris Houlding. All Together is a sparkling piece that is suitable for various playing levels, and offers the ideal motivation for young musicians within your society. Peter Kleine Schaars wrote this composition especially for (combined) ensembles with different playing skills. Musicians can display their abilities at their own level - and in between, they all play together. The grade three parts contain all levels in cues, so that this composition can also be played by the large band only.

Inchcolm is an island in the Forth estuary first visited by St Columba in 567 and mentioned in Shakespeare's Macbeth. The ruins of Columba's abbey are regularly shrouded in mist and bring with it a flavour of mystery and legend. Composer and distinguished French horn player Terry Johns (Drac to his friends) was commissioned to write this work for Superbrass and their water influenced 2nd album, Brass Taps. Drac requested that he be allowed to write a solo feature with a proper tune for horn. Kingdom Brass in Scotland premiered Inchcolm in its new brass band form and the solo part is playable by either a tenor or french horn player. Duration: 5.00. Suitable for 2nd Section Bands and above.

Le Divin Enfant; Infant Holy, Infant Lowly; Personent Hodie; We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Angels From The Realms Of Glory, which brings the overture to a majestic close. Fragments of other carols appear along the way to enrich the texture of what is surely one of the most attractive pieces written for the festive season. Every year a competition for wind orchestras and brass bands takes place in Wallberg, Switzerland. Apart from a hymn and a solo piece, all orchestras also have a compulsory piece to play. The commission to create a compulsory piece for the 2012 competition fell to Jan de Haan. The composition is entitled Musica Helvetica. It takes the form of a three-part concert work, in which the last two parts flow directly from one to the other. The first part, Musica Prima, is a brisk virtuoso opening with jazz flavours woven in. The following section, Musica Sacra, offers a contrast with an extraordinarily colourful instrumentation for the gorgeous main theme. The final part, Musica Alpina, is inspired by the great variety of scenery in Switzerland. With its witty humour it makes a worthy conclusion to this beautiful tryptich.Duration: 11.00
